There is something in life, in my life, that was able to overcome this extraordinary passion I have for singing, and especially lyrical singing. Whenever the Foundation succeed in finding a compatible donor for patients awaiting a transplant, or every time we make progress in scientific research thanks to one of our scholarships, or when leukaemia patients are treated in transplant units or clinics that we have helped to finance, I feel enormously happy. Thanks to my profession, I am privileged to help or, at least, try to help people in need. In 1987, I became ill with leukaemia. During my illness I was lucky enough to have a family who supported me throughout, to have an extraordinary medical team, in addition to the spontaneous support and sympathy of the general public. This allowed me to maintain my morale and it gave me the necessary energy and determination to fight leukaemia. On July 14th 1988, with the support of my family, eminent scientists and business people, I had the opportunity to create the International Foundation for the Fight Against Leukaemia. Our Foundation focuses on four main areas: supporting scientific research, providing infrastructures for healthcare centres and hospitals, and searching for bone marrow and stem cell donors. All this in addition to offering social services for leukaemia patients and their families. The main mission of the Foundation is to support scientific research. The Josep Carreras Foundation for the Fight Against Leukaemia was born to help make Leukaemia a completely curable disease for everyone and in all cases. Our work will not stop until our goal becomes a reality.

Grand finale of the Christmas tour in Moscow

Ero in attesa di una review più dettagliata, ma a quanto pare gli articoli usciti stamattina in merito al concerto che Josep Carreras ha offerto a Mosca ieri sera, non sono che una copia di quelli di ieri. Poco male, abbiamo altro materiale. Ad ogni modo, questo post verrà sicuramente aggiornato nel caso di ulteriori notizie.

Josep Carreras ha concluso il suo tour natalizio con un grande concerto presso la Crocus City Hall di Mosca, che per l'evento era doverosamente addobbata a Natale. Il repertorio, come previamente annunciato, è stato molto vario, con una prima parte di stampo classico, e una seconda con i tradizionali brani natalizi, poco comuni in Russia. A fianco di Carreras si è esibito il soprano Olga Peretiatko, il coro di bambini Popov, e la Filarmonica di Russia diretta dal Maestro David Giménez, a tratti anche senza bacchetta.

A giudicare dalle foto e dai video che potete vedere qui sotto, Josep Carreras appare disteso, e sembra aver recuperato il suo delizioso sorriso. La sua voce ha riempito di atmosfera tutta la sala che, anche se non completamente gremita, ne conserverà un meraviglioso ricordo. Possiamo affermare con un certo orgoglio che nessun raffreddamento ha potuto minare le sue performances che, in ogni caso, si sono rivelate all'altezza di un artista come lo è sempre stato: la sua voce ha portato il Natale a Tokyo, Kosice, Praga, Lugano, Milano e Mosca, per non dimenticare il José Carreras Gala di Lipsia!! Dopo le feste, dovrebbe recarsi a Pechino per Capodanno, ma per il momento nessun appuntamento ufficiale. Vedremo cosa succederà!

Oggi farà ritorno a casa, a Barcellona, per prepararsi per l'appuntamento più importante: festeggiare il Natale con la sua famiglia!! Ora sì che ha senso cantare I'll be home for Christmas!!
