There is something in life, in my life, that was able to overcome this extraordinary passion I have for singing, and especially lyrical singing. Whenever the Foundation succeed in finding a compatible donor for patients awaiting a transplant, or every time we make progress in scientific research thanks to one of our scholarships, or when leukaemia patients are treated in transplant units or clinics that we have helped to finance, I feel enormously happy. Thanks to my profession, I am privileged to help or, at least, try to help people in need. In 1987, I became ill with leukaemia. During my illness I was lucky enough to have a family who supported me throughout, to have an extraordinary medical team, in addition to the spontaneous support and sympathy of the general public. This allowed me to maintain my morale and it gave me the necessary energy and determination to fight leukaemia. On July 14th 1988, with the support of my family, eminent scientists and business people, I had the opportunity to create the International Foundation for the Fight Against Leukaemia. Our Foundation focuses on four main areas: supporting scientific research, providing infrastructures for healthcare centres and hospitals, and searching for bone marrow and stem cell donors. All this in addition to offering social services for leukaemia patients and their families. The main mission of the Foundation is to support scientific research. The Josep Carreras Foundation for the Fight Against Leukaemia was born to help make Leukaemia a completely curable disease for everyone and in all cases. Our work will not stop until our goal becomes a reality.

"Il Video della Settimana" CHRISTMAS SPECIAL: Josep sings Carol of the Drum and El Cant dels Ocells

Benvenuti ancora una volta per il Video dela Settimana. Manca una settimana a Natale, per questo motivo voglio essere più generosa e offrirvi due brani, per preparare più intensamente l'atmosfera magica che dovrebbe sempre caratterizzare il Natale.

I brani scelti questa settimana sono Carol of the Drum, conosciuta anche come The little drummer boy, e la tradizionale catalana El Cant dels Ocells.

Per quanto riguarda Carol of the Drum vi propongo la versione del 1992 che Josep Carreras ha cantato insieme a Diana Ross per il concerto "Christmas in Vienna", dove un altro grande protagonista era Plácido Domingo. In una vecchia intervista Josep aveva affermato di avere un certo debole per questo brano: ora non so se la sua idea sia rimasta quella, a distanza di anni, ma fatto sta che questo brano è sempre presente nei suoi concerti di Natale in giro per il mondo, quindi per forza si tratta di una canzone particolarmente gradita a Josep.

Ho aggiunto di cuore anche una magnifica versione della bellissima, tradizionale catalana El Cant dels Ocells, dopo aver appurato con sommo piacere che rientrerà nel programma del concerto di stasera al Teatro Smeraldo di Milano, insieme ovviamente a Carol of the Drum tra molte altre. Nel video Josep la interpreta insieme alla grande Montserrat Caballé.

Spero di cuore, ma ne sono sicura, che questi due video siano di vostro gradimento. Tra un'ora vedremo Josep sul palco milanese dello Smeraldo. La settimana non potrebbe concludersi in modo migliore, e non potrebbe esserci più suggestivo augurio natalizio di un suo concerto. Per una nuova edizione de Il Video della Settimana - Christmas Special vi rimando a domenica prossima, Santo Natale.
