There is something in life, in my life, that was able to overcome this extraordinary passion I have for singing, and especially lyrical singing. Whenever the Foundation succeed in finding a compatible donor for patients awaiting a transplant, or every time we make progress in scientific research thanks to one of our scholarships, or when leukaemia patients are treated in transplant units or clinics that we have helped to finance, I feel enormously happy. Thanks to my profession, I am privileged to help or, at least, try to help people in need. In 1987, I became ill with leukaemia. During my illness I was lucky enough to have a family who supported me throughout, to have an extraordinary medical team, in addition to the spontaneous support and sympathy of the general public. This allowed me to maintain my morale and it gave me the necessary energy and determination to fight leukaemia. On July 14th 1988, with the support of my family, eminent scientists and business people, I had the opportunity to create the International Foundation for the Fight Against Leukaemia. Our Foundation focuses on four main areas: supporting scientific research, providing infrastructures for healthcare centres and hospitals, and searching for bone marrow and stem cell donors. All this in addition to offering social services for leukaemia patients and their families. The main mission of the Foundation is to support scientific research. The Josep Carreras Foundation for the Fight Against Leukaemia was born to help make Leukaemia a completely curable disease for everyone and in all cases. Our work will not stop until our goal becomes a reality.

"Il Video della Settimana" - MERRY CHRISTMAS: Josep sings Cantique de Noël and Silent Night

Anche se un po' in ritardo, non poteva mancare questa edizione de Il Video della Settimana, edizione straordinara in quanto coincide con il giorno, ormai quasi concluso, di Natale. Quest'oggi, per rinnovarvi i miei più sinceri auguri, e soprattutto perché "non è Natale senza Josep", vi lascio due versioni di due brani celeberrimi di Natale: Cantique de Noël, più nota forse come Oh Holy Night, e Silent Night, anche se il titolo originale è in tedesco, Stille Nacht.

Per quanto riguarda Cantique de Noël, vi ho senz'altro già confessato di avere una particolare predilezione: ve ne lascio una versione parziale, ma recentissima, in quanto risale allo scorso mercoledì, nel concerto di Mosca che ha concluso il tour di concerti per Dicembre. Solo 1:25 minuti... ma un tempo sufficiente per emozionarsi e abbandonarsi alla magia della notte di Natale.

La versione che vi propongo, invece, di Silent Night, "la quintessenza della canzone di Natale" secondo Josep Carreras, risale al 1997, in una emotiva versione in coppia con la cantante Edyta Gorniak. Dalla giacca del tenore spunta un simbolo patriottico, la famosa senyera plastificata, posizionata sul cuore: su quell'immagine significativa Carreras pronuncia il testo di Santa Nit, come vuole la versione in catalano. Mi sono per altro accorta di non avervi mai segnalato questa versione di Silent Night, ma come vedete arriva il momento per ogni cosa.

Spero che questa giornata abbia donato a tutti voi una buona dose di felicità... in tutto questo, la musica gioca un ruolo fondamentale!!
