"Il Video della Settimana": Josep Carreras sings Ingemisco from Requiem Mass by Verdi

Rieccoci per un nuovo momento dedicato a il Video della Settimana.

Dopo il duetto de Un Ballo in Maschera della settimana scorsa, quest'oggi intendo riproporvi un altro momento squisitamente verdiano, dai colori un po' diversi. La scelta nasce da uno dei contenuti che caratterizzano il libro di memorie di Josep Carreras, A viva voz / De viva veu, uscito nelle librerie all'inizio dello scorso ottobre, e che sto rileggendo nella traduzione catalana: nel libro, Màrius Carol e Josep Carreras delineano in modo molto definito il rapporto che quest'ultimo intratteneva con quella che sicuramente costituisce una delle icone più rappresentative della direzione d'orchestra, Herbert von Karajan. 

Non intendo riportare qui le parole e le frasi più significative: sarebbe preferibile che le leggeste personalmente, perché l'effetto è ben diverso. Le parole, quindi, non spettano a me. Posso solo raccontarvi il modo in cui io ho riscontrato l'intesa indescrivibile, l'affetto, la stima ed il rispetto reciproci tra Carreras e Karajan. La prima volta che, nel prenderne atto, sono rimasta realmente impressionata stavo proprio guardando e ascoltando il Requiem di Verdi, nella sua videoregistrazione del 1984, presso il Musikverein di Vienna. Lo schieramento, oltre a Josep Carreras, prevedeva Anna Tomowa - Sintow, Agnes Baltsa, José Van Dam, il Coro della Wiener Staatsoper e la Wiener Philarmoniker.

Ho amato il Requiem di Verdi fin dal primo ascolto, e non credo di rivelare niente di straordinario. Vi propongo qui uno dei due momenti che prediligo, e che naturalmente vede come unico protagonista il tenore: l'Ingemisco. Sarà anche scontata e banale come scelta... ma è stato proprio qui che, all'epoca, ero stata rapita dal magnetismo, dalla chimica che si crea tra voce e direttore, dall'espressione eloquente e dai movimenti di Karajan e dalla meravigliosa performance di Josep Carreras. In quell'occasione, e vi parlo ormai di un po' di anni fa, mi aveva impressionata. Ma non vi nascondo che, nel caso specifico, ogni volta è come la prima. Godetevelo!!

Besides words, I could only tell you how I came to know the kind of relationship between them: mutual admiration, respect and affection. I saw it the first time I watch the video recording of Verdi's Requiem Mass  that took place in the Musikverein in Vienna in 1984. Apart form Josep Carreras and Herbert von Karajan the rest of the  team was: Anna Tomowa - Sintow, Agnes Baltsa, Jose Van Dam, the Vienna State Opera Choir and the Wiener Philarmoniker.

◦ Specifically, I've chosen one of my two favourite moments of the Mass, the one where the tenor is the absolute protagonist, Ingemisco. By watching, and listening to it, you can realise what I told you before: the conductor's expression, and Carreras marvellous rendition speak more than any word. The first time I watched it and saw it, some years ago, I was really, really impressed. But I confess you that, for such great moments, each time is like the first one. Enjoy it!!
