Josep Carreras to be honored with the Honorary Ring of the Wiener Staatsoper

Key facts:

Before arriving in Tallinn, Josep Carreras stopped in Vienna to try on the Honorary Ring of the Vienna State Opera, on Wednesday, which he will be officially honoured with on September 15, during his benefit concert which will celebrate both the 25th anniversary of  his Foundation and his 25 years of recovery since his return to the scene after his own battle against leukemia.
All of you have surely heard of the famous "Vienna Comeback": Josep Carreras' comeback to the Austrian capital was celebrated with an extraordinary recital,  later released on DVD. Extraordinary in the literal sense of the word: it was the first recital ever hosted by the Opera of Vienna, a format that until then was not expected, but accepted on such occasion as what mattered most was to celebrate the victorious battle of the beloved tenor for his own life, and his professional return. It was September 16, 1988. So it should not happen by chance that on September 15, almost the same date 25 years after, Josep Carreras will be singing there in a matinee.
Josep Carreras has worn the ring honorary alongside Hermann Gmeiner Wagner, owner of Juwelier Wagner who creates it for the honorary members of the Vienna State Opera since 2004: the sample shows both the external architecture of the Staatsoper, and the interior of the hall. Plácido Domingo, who had already been awarded with the Honorary Ring, was conducting Roméo et Juliette at the Staatsoper, and Josep Carreras, taking advantage of his short stay, attended the performance on 25 June.
