Josep Carreras and Birgit Nilsson in Tosca, 1974.

BRAVO JOSEP!!!

Josep Carreras chose to propose a very assorted repertoire, ranging from Verdi, Donizetti and Bizet, to Dvorák, Tosti, Albéniz, or to the greatest popular traditions, such as the zarzuela or Neapolitan songs.
The Stockholm Concert Orchestra opened the night with the Overture from Nabucco, to then move on with the Farandole from L'Arlesienne by Bizet, towards the end of the first part, and the Intermezzo from La Boda de Luis Alonso Jiménez, mid-of the second one.
In the first part, Josep Carreras started with Te voglio bene assaje by Donizetti and L'Ultima Canzone by Tosti, to sing then El eco de tu voz by Albéniz and the unmissable Rosó (Pel teu amor) by his compatriot Josep Ribas, and close with the highlight of the musical The Man of La Mancha, The Impossible Dream, by Leigh.
Simge Büyükedes, instead, chose to perform Song to the Moon from Rusalka by Dvorák, and an aria from Catalani's La Wally, Ebben? Ne andrò lontana.
In the second part, wide space to Neapolitan songs with Josep Carreras, who offered the winning combination Vurria and Passione, respectively by Rendine and Valente. Different kind of proposals by Simge Büyükedes, who chose Les Filles de Cadix Delibes and the zarzuela, the Canción de Paloma from El Barberillo de Lavapies Barbieri, instead.
Time for some duet, two to be exact: Je te veux by Satie and another fundamental piece of zarzuela, El Dúo de la Africana by Caballero. As always, Carreras' incomparable interpretation of Core 'ngrato concluded the official program with extraordinary solemnity.
Five encores by which artists have responded to the great enthusiasm of the audience, indicating a hugely successful performance. As usual, the first piece was Chitarra Romana by Josep Carreras, who then gave even more than his 100% in a thrilling version of Torna a  Surriento. I could have danced all night was the proposal of the soprano, which joined again the legendary tenor in two more duets: Non ti scordar di me and the Brindisi from La Traviata, that lead the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of Dalhalla to the highest level.
