Josep Carreras receives the Excellence Guirlande d'Honneur at the Exsport Movies and Tv FICTS Fest in Milan

A PRESTO, JOSEP!!!

ENGLISH

Yesterday afternoon Josep Carreras returned to Milan as Guest of Honor of Exsport Movies and TV - Milano International Ficts Fest 2015, a festival that honors the best film and television productions dedicated to sport from around the world, because of his role of musical director of the Barcelona Olympics of 1992. As such, he attended the opening ceremony of the festival which was held at the Ceremonies Room at Palazzo Cusani, headquarters of the Lombardy Military Command Army, shortly after 6pm. Just a few minutes before, the tenor, accompanied by his son Albert, daughter Ingrid and a couple of friends, met the media at the Sala Verde.
Daniele and myself had been invited to this meeting, representing the Blog, and this is why we would like to thank again the President Professor Franco Ascani and the whole team of FICTS (Fédération Internationale Cinéma Télévision Sportifs) for such fantastic opportunity.
We could well expect that sport was to be the main topic. He began by saying that he would not talk of his team, Barça, "not to embarrass you", probably meaning that it is widely regarded as the best team of the world. As you will hear in the video above, Carreras mentioned the analogy between sport and music, particularly live music because of the emotional component, alluding to the association between the player performing a penalty kick during a Champions League final and the tenor dealing with the High C at La Scala.
Then, he shared his personal experiences with sports, particularly football and basketball, which he practised when he was a young man, and that still keep him glued to the TV screen.
After that, he express his appreciation fur such recognition coming not from his fields, music and the fight against leukemia, even stronger if it comes from Italy and Milan, a city that has always had a weakness for,  mostly for what the Teatro alla Scala means to an opera singer.
Later, he recalled another sport lover among his colleagues, Luciano Pavarotti, who was a great fan of Juventus, but mostly of the Italian national team, and of cycling as well.
Ultimately, the advice he would give to young people approaching to music and sport would be to observe a strong discipline, which needs to be combined to the talent.
We also have been offered the opportunity to ask a question, but chose to give up. Perhaps we should have taken this opportunity, but the excitement of the moment prevailed at the end. We didn't want to bother in any way.
After the meeting with the media, concluded with a series of greetings and photographs, President Ascani led Carreras through an exhibition in a few rooms of the Palazzo Cusani, then brought him in the Ceremonies Room to launch the Opening of the Festival.
I share the program, so that I can focus on the award delivery, which we thought to record a video of. I hope all those who could not take part to this event will enjoy it as much as we did.
On the screen, a sequence of short excerpts showing him firstly in the role of President of the Josep Carreras Leukemia Foundation during a recent  awareness campaign, then his rendition of Granada in Verona 1988, recently healed, and finally an epic finale of Nessun Dorma together with Domingo and Pavarotti, from their magnificent concert of Los Angeles 1994. "My foundation? It's my way of giving back to science what I got from it": this was one of his statements right after his arrival in Milan, which the moderator of the ceremony shared with us just before he joined the stage. Encharged of rewarding him with the Excellence Guirlande d'Honneur the was Prefect of Milan, Francesco Paolo Tronca, alongside President Ascani.
Carreras then spoke briefly, expressing his gratitude for receiving such recognition from an association that strongly supports sport and culture, and the happiness since this happens precisely in Milan (once again), a city he loves so much, the city of Teatro alla Scala, which is even more than La Mecca for an opera singer who performed there so many times. The tenor, showing off a perfect Italian, then said goodbye to the audience with a promising "See you soon!"
Needless to point out that at the end of the ceremony he has been besieged by many of the attending people for a photo or just greetings. Impeccable as always, he pleases everyone.

CONGRATULATION, JOSEP!!
