Good evening, dear collegues.
It has been several years ago when I heard Jonas Kaufmann singing for the first time. I was deeply moved straightaway, and I immediately felt here is real talent, an artist. He is able to transmit emotions with his extraordinary voice and the perfect authenticity of his singing. The versatility of his voice allowes him to tailor his characters or his roles from dark to penetrating, and then, again, honeycolor.
Like no other singer in our days, Jonas Kaufmann is painting emotions in a technically perfect manner, making us not only hear but truly feel his performance. Not long ago, I had the pleasure to sing together with him, and it was a special moment for the singer he is, and for the person he is. I am really very glad to present this award to a collegue who contributes enormously to fascinating millions of people with opera.
Congratulations, Jonas! You are really something.

Yesterday afternoon the ceremony of the Echo Klassik 2014 was celebrated in Gasteig, Munich, presented by Nina Eichener and Rolando Villazón who, as you know, speaks German very fluently. Among the winners, a lot of world stars of classical music, including the famous violinists Anne - Sophie Mutter and David Garrett, soprano Anna Netrebko, tenors Jonas Kaufmann and Piotr Beczała.
After the awarding of Anne-Sophie Mutter, Rolando Villazón presented the following laudator.
He said he was delighted to introduce with all my heart the next laudator, one of the best tenors of all time, a living legend. According to him, no other voice can express the soul of the character so completely and fully. A member of the Three Tenors along with Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti, this year has triumphed around the world with a new opera, El Juez. These are the words that led der große Josep Carreras, excited and warmly welcome by the audience.
The laudatory speech revealed a great deal of admiration for Kaufmann by our tenor, who in turn received a laudatory speech by Kaufmann himself, over a year ago, which was followed by an emotional duet.
Here is the full laudatio for Jonas Kaufmann.

Unfortunately Jonas Kaufmann was unable to attend and receive the award in person due to a bad flu. For this reason, Josep Carreras collected it on his behalf, in order to deliver it to him as soon as he has the opportunity. At the end of the speech a video of a brilliant performance by Kaufmann was broadcast.
