Josep Carreras, "A Life in Music" at the Brucknerhaus in Linz
Lo scorso 27 marzo Josep Carreras ha offerto una magnifica serata al pubblico presente alla Brucknerhaus di Linz, proponendo un formato speciale, ovvero un recital con pianoforte e quartetto d'archi. È stato accompagnato dal mezzosoprano Margarita Gritskova, dal suo pianista Lorenzo Bavaj e dall'Opera Petite Ensemble. Una scelta che ha sicuramente contribuito al quasi tutto esaurito in sala, nonostante il prezzo elevato dei biglietti.

A life in music, difficilmente si potrebbe trovare un titolo più indicato per descrivere il percorso di questo artista unico e straordinario, che faceva ritorno nella città austriaca a distanza di quasi tre anni dal successo del suo concerto "Klassik am Dom" nel 2012.
Schubert, Rossini, Puccini, Leoncavallo, Tosti, ma anche Rendine, Valente, Cardillo, Grieg o Derevitsky sono alcuni tra i grandi nomi di compositori che hanno conferito gran prestigio al programma pensato per l'occasione: Josep Carreras ha scelto di esibirsi in brani come Era de Maggio, Segreto Terra e Mare, T'estimo e Serenata Napolitaine nel corso della prima parte, per poi proseguire nella seconda con Serenata sincera e gli affermati cavalli di battaglia quali Vurria, Passione e Core 'ngrato. Hanno suscitato altrettanto entusiasmo i duetti, come la struggente Ave Maria di Schubert e Je te veux di Satie, insieme alla giovane partner russa, particolarmente apprezzata anche nelle sue performance individuali, tra cui si possono citare l'aria rossiniana Non più mesta, da La Cenerentola, ma anche brani da Debussy, Rachmaninov e Ravel.
Gloria anche per Lorenzo Bavaj e per il quartetto d'archi, grazie alle esecuzioni di Valse coquette di Leoncavallo ed il magnifico Intermezzo da Cavalleria Rusticana di Mascagni.
Pubblico in estasi. Commenti a dir poco entusiastici a fine concerto da parte degli stessi che avrebbero fatto qualsiasi cosa per trattenere ancora il grande tenore sul palco, anche dopo la generosa offerta dei cinque bis.
Carreras ha sfoderato due assi nella manica come Un'ombra e Vierno che difficilmente hanno eguali e che, come potrete evincere dai video, offrono un potenziale espressivo che gli permette di irrompere dritto al cuore delle persone, con raffinata eleganza e sconfinata maestria.
Dal canto suo, il mezzosoprano ha eseguito uno dei brani più amati per il suo registro, la Seguidilla di Carmen; successivamente ha raggiunto Carreras nei duetti con Non ti scordar di me e, gran finale, con Lippen Schweigen da Die lustige Witwe (La vedova allegra), nella quale entrambi hanno saputo concedere il giusto spazio anche all'aspetto recitativo: da un lato, la Gritskova, volutamente coquette e seducente, dall'altro Carreras, per propria indole serio e composto, ma sempre profondamente sincero nell'interpretazione.

Last 27 March, Josep Carreras offered a wonderful evening to the audience at the Brucknerhaus, in Linz, Austria, with a special format, a recital with piano and string quartet. He was accompanied by the mezzo-soprano Margarita Gritskova, his pianist Lorenzo Bavaj and Opera Petite Ensemble. All this made that the event was almost sold out, despite the quite expensive tickets.
"A Life in Music", one could hardly find a more appropriate denomination to describe the achievement of such unique and extraordinary artist, who was back in the Austrian town almost three years after "Klassik am Dom", another successful concert he offered in 2012. Schubert, Rossini, Puccini, Leoncavallo, Tosti, but also Rendine, Valente, Cardillo, Grieg or Derevitsky are some of the great names of composers who made the program shine: Josep Carreras chose to perform with songs like Era de Maggio, Segreto, Terra e Mare, T'estimo and Serenade Napolitaine during the first part, and then continued in the second with a new entry like Serenata sincera, and established strong suits such as Vurria, Passione and Core 'ngrato. However, the duets aroused the same kind of enthusiasm: the poignant Ave Maria by Schubert, and Je te veux by Satie, interpreted together with the young Russian partners, who was particularly appreciated in her individual performances, including the aria Non più mesta, from Rossini's La Cenerentola, but also pieces by Debussy, Rachmaninov and Ravel.
Lots of glory also for Lorenzo Bavaj, and the string quartet, which played Leoncavallo's Valse coquette, and the magnificent Intermezzo from Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana.
The audience was ravished, completely in ecstasy. Lots of excited comments at the end of the concert by the same people who would have done anything just to hold the great tenor on stage, even after five encores. Carreras played two ace cards by singing Un'ombra and Vierno, which are without parallel and, as the video reveals, provide a highly expressive potential, allowing him to burst into the heart of the people, with refined elegance and boundless mastery.
On the other hand, the mezzo-soprano performed one of the most preferred pieces of her range, which is Carmen' Seguidilla; after that, she joined Carreras in the duets with Non ti scordar di me, and the grand finale with Lippen Schweigen from The Merry Widow. Both were able to give the right space to acting: on the one hand, Gritskova, deliberately seductive and coquette; on the other Carreras, by nature serious and corteous, who provided a sincere interpretation as well.
