Josep Carreras in Bucharest: "Ave Maria" in memory of the young victims of the tragic fire at the Colectiv Club
Dopo una parentesi asiatica durata un paio di settimane e che lo ha visto esibirsi a Tianjin e Tokyo, Josep Carreras torna in Europa per riprendere il suo tour A Life in Music che ha fatto tappa ieri sera a Bucarest. Insieme a lui sul palco dell'arena Romenxpo, il soprano Nataliya Kovalova e il Maestro David Giménez, il quale ha diretto per l'occasione la Filarmonica George Enescu.

Come di consueto, è stato scelto un programma vario e ben strutturato, il più adatto a far risaltare le caratteristiche attuali del tenore che tra una settimana festeggerà il suo sessantanovesimo compleanno.
Prima di illustrarlo nel dettaglio, vorrei passare direttamente al momento più commovente della serata quando, a pochi brani dall'inizio del concerto, Josep Carreras si è rivolto al pubblico per dedicare l'Ave Maria di Schubert, eseguita in duetto con Nataliya Kovalova, alle sessanta vittime del tragico incendio al Colectiv Club di Bucarest avvenuto lo scorso 30 ottobre. In questo modo ha "pregato" come lui sa fare, non dimenticando di esprimere la propria vicinanza ai familiari e agli amici delle giovani vittime, le cui immagini scorrevano sugli schermi, una dopo l'altra, nel corso del brano.
Carreras ha aperto la serata con La Serenata ed Era de Maggio, per poi proseguire con la sua T'estimo e The Impossible Dream, che ha chiuso la prima parte del programma. Per la seconda, invece, ha scelto Vurria e Passione in apertura, di seguito Lejana Tierra Mía ed infine Core 'ngrato, facendosi artefice di un'emozione realmente incontenibile.
Al suo fianco, Nataliya Kovalova, la quale lo accompagnerà anche domenica sera a Cluj- Napoca. Il soprano ha proposto invece la celebre Song to the moon di Dvořák, Les Filles de Cadix, Heia, Heia!! da Die Csardafürstin e Canción de Paloma da El Barberillo de Lavapiés, rispettivamente nella prima e seconda parte. Inoltre ha raggiunto sul palco Carreras nel precedentemente citato momento dell'Ave Maria, per poi duettare di nuovo con Je te veux di Satie, e nel Dúo y Jota dalla zarzuela La Africana.
David Giménez e la Filarmonica si sono invece esibiti nell'Ouverture da Die Fledermaus, nella Jazz Suite. Waltz 2 di Shostakovich e nell'Intermezzo da La Boda de Luis Alonso di Jiménez.
Inondati di fiori, gli artisti hanno concesso diversi bis, tra cui Chitarra Romana, O mio babbino caro, e i duetti Non ti scordar di me e il celeberrimo Brindisi da La Traviata.

Domani, invece, verrà proclamato Dottore Honoris Causa presso l'Accademia di Musica di Cluj - Napoca, altra città romena che ospiterà il suo concerto di domenica sera.

After a couple of weeks in Asia during which he perform in Tianjin and Tokyo, Josep Carreras is back to Europe to resume his A Life in Music tour, which has made a stop last night in Bucharest. On stage at the Romenxpo arena he was joined by soprano Nataliya Kovalova and Maestro David Giménez, whoconducted on that occasion the George Enescu Philharmonic.
As usual, the renowned tenor chose a varied, well structured program, suited to his current vocal features... in a week he will celebrate his sixty-ninth birthday.
Before describing it in detail, I would like to focus directly on the most moving moment of the evening when, a few songs after the beginning of the concert, Josep Carreras turned to the audience to dedicate Schubert's Ave Maria, performed in duet with Nataliya Kovalova, to the sixty victims of the fire at Colectiv Club, which tragically happened in Bucharest on last 30 October. In this way, he "prayed" as he can do so well, not forgetting to express his support to the families and friends of the young victims, whose pictures ran on the screens, one after another, throughout the piece.
By the way, Carreras opened the evening with La Serenata de Era de Maggio, and then continued with his T'estimo and The Impossible Dream, which closed the first part of the program. During the second part, instead, he sang Vurria and Passione as the opening, then followined by Lejana Tierra Mía and finally Core 'ngrato,with which he became responsible for an overwhelming amount of emotions and feelings.
By his his side, Nataliya Kovalova, which will join him him again in Cluj-Napoca on Sunday evening. The soprano proposed the famous Song to the moon by Dvořák, Les Filles de Cadiz, Heia, Heia!! from Die Csardafürstin and finally Canción de Paloma from El Barberillo de Lavapies, respectively in the first and second part. She also joined Carreras in previously mentioned Ave Maria and in further duets such as Je te veux by Satie, and Dúo y Jota from the zarzuela La Africana.
David Giménez and the Philharmonic played the Overture from Die Fledermaus, the Jazz Suit. Waltz 2 by Shostakovich and the Intermezzo from La Boda de Luis Alonso by Jiménez.
Showered with flowers, the celebrated artists offered a few encores, including Chitarra Romana, O mio babbino caro, and the duets Non ti scordar di me and the famous Brindisi from La Traviata.
Scheduled for today was his visit at a Bone Marrow Transplant Center still in the capital, while tomorrow he will receive the Honoris Causa Degree at the Academy of Music in Cluj - Napoca, the other Romanian town that will host his concert on Sunday evening.
