Josep Carreras ha rendit un emotiu homenatge a la Sardana i a la Cançó catalana des del Liceu de Barcelona
Sabato sera molta gente da diverse parti del mondo ha affiancato il pubblico barcellonese assistendo al ritorno di Josep Carreras sul suo amatissimo palco del Gran Teatre del Liceu, con un concerto profondamente patriottico, incentrato sul patrimonio musicale della sua terra.
A distanza di quasi sette anni dal suo magnifico recital dei "50 anys" e tre dall'ultima performance, con un "T'estimo" affettuosamente dedicato alla leggendaria compagna di scena Montserrat Caballé, era come se il nostro tenore tornasse a casa per rendere un emotivo omaggio alle tradizioni musicali della Sardana e della Cançó catalana: è stato accompagnato dalla SCCC, la Simfònica de Cobla i Corda de Catalunya, intregrata da La Principal de la Bisbal e la Jove Orquestra de les Comarques Gironines, guidata dai direttori Francesc Cassús e David Giménez, e dalla Coral Puig-Reig.
A distanza di quasi sette anni dal suo magnifico recital dei "50 anys" e tre dall'ultima performance, con un "T'estimo" affettuosamente dedicato alla leggendaria compagna di scena Montserrat Caballé, era come se il nostro tenore tornasse a casa per rendere un emotivo omaggio alle tradizioni musicali della Sardana e della Cançó catalana: è stato accompagnato dalla SCCC, la Simfònica de Cobla i Corda de Catalunya, intregrata da La Principal de la Bisbal e la Jove Orquestra de les Comarques Gironines, guidata dai direttori Francesc Cassús e David Giménez, e dalla Coral Puig-Reig.
Il concerto rientrava nell'offerta musicale del Festival del Mil·lenni e celebrava la chiusura della Capitalitat de la Sardana 2014 che ha visto come protagonista la metropoli catalana.
Carreras ha metaforicamente portato alta la bandiera della sua terra, cimentandosi in un repertorio in parte nuovo ma familiare allo stesso tempo. Alcune dei più popolari brani della Sardana si sono alternati ad altre canzoni tradizionali del suo paese di cui è stato straordinario interprete nel corso della sua carriera. Il programma ha previsto anche esibizioni per sola orchestra ed altre che hanno lasciato ai membri del coro lo scettro protagonista.
Il pubblico ha risposto con entusiasmo, premiando le performance con applausi calorosi e pregni di emotività e amor di patria: in particolare, due famose Sardanes hanno acceso l'ardore patriottico dei presenti, La Santa Espina e Catalunya plora: nella prima, per esempio, vi ha preso parte battendo le mani a ritmo, contribuendo a caricare il momento di ulteriore emozione.
Tuttavia, il tenore sembrava mostrare nel complesso maggiore disinvoltura in quei brani attraverso i quali ha diffuso il sentimento per il suo paese in tutto il mondo in tantissime occasioni, di cui si potrebbero richiamare alla mente tante versioni indimenticabili: un brivido ci ha attraversati con El cant dels ocells, straordinario inno alla pace che questa volta presentava un arrangiamento decisamente più folk, ma che non ci ha privati dell'intimismo irrinunciabile che ha sempre caratterizzato le interpretazioni di Carreras. Altrettanto familiari e graditi anche ai carreristi non catalani, i due brani di Eduard Toldrà, Festeig e Cançó del Grumet, Les neus de les muntanyes, frammento della Cançó de l'avi Castellet, dalla zarzuela Cançó d'amor i de guerra di Martínez Valls, per non dimenticare T'estimo di Grieg, uno di quei pezzi che non avrebbero potuto mancare per nessun motivo.
Stranamente non c'è stato nessun intervallo, e prima dei bis sono intervenuti anche i Dansaires de les colles sardanistes de Barcelona per rappresentare la tradizione anche da un punto di vista coreografico, danzando in platea tra il pubblico. Nel frattempo, era il momento dei consueti omaggi floreali.

Un crescendo straordinaria intensità con i bis: da una sempre commovente versione de L'emigrant di Vives, a una emblematica ed irrinunciabile Rosó (Pel teu amor) di Ribas, e un gran finale con La Santa Espina, ancora più enfatica di quella eseguita nel programma ufficiale: la voce del tenore si è significativamente fatta largo su quelle del coro, come a voler sottolineare il messaggio nel verso "Som i serem gent catalana, tant si es vol com si no es vol" (Siamo e saremo catalani, che lo si voglia o no). Come se non bastasse, il pubblico vi ha preso parte ancora più attivamente di prima, unendosi al forte spirito rivendicativo che questa sardana racchiude.
Assistere a questo concerto è stato senz'altro un'esperienza unica: ascoltare Josep Carreras al Liceu di Barcellona, ripercorrendo con la mente tutti i momenti indimenticabili ed i trionfi che vi ha collezionato, sapendo ciò che hanno significato nella sua vita, è qualcosa che non si può esprimere con parole. Questo da solo vale l'evento. Inoltre, il repertorio era sicuramente qualcosa di originale e diverso dal consueto.
Più volte in piedi, tutto il pubblico ha ampiamente premiato con ripetuti bravo ed interminabili ovazioni un artista considerato da tutti come una delle glorie assolute di casa, il quale ha privilegiato un approccio molto intimista e di grande sensibilità: vi hanno trovato spazio le sfumature, le mezze voci e l'eleganza di un fraseggio che porta il marchio "Carreras" da più di quarant'anni.
Questo purtroppo non sempre è stato perfettamente compatibile con il contributo orchestrale, proprio per la natura stessa del repertorio: la sardana, infatti, è caratterizzata da una sonorità forte, a tratti acuta e stridula, prodotta da strumenti particolari che, a tratti, hanno inevitabilmente ostacolato la proiezione della voce, rendendo alcune sfumature come appunto le squisite mezze voci, molto difficili da udire e da apprezzare pienamente.
Detto ciò, sicuramente un omaggio molto emotivo e una chiusura dalla forte carica simbolica per la Capitalitat de la Sardana 2014, attraverso l'arte straordinaria di uno dei catalani universali più amati in assoluto.

Saturday night a lot of people from different parts of the world joined the Catalan audience to experience Josep Carreras' return to his beloved stage of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, with a deeply patriotic kind of concert, focused on the musical heritage of his homeland. After almost seven years since his magnificent "50 anys" recital and three since his last performance of "T'estimo" affectionately dedicated to his legendary stage companion Montserrat Caballé, our tenor in a sense sang back home again, making an emotional tribute to the musical traditions of the Sardana and Catalan song: he was accompanied by SCCC, the Simfònica de Cobla the Corda de Catalunya, intregrated by "La Principal de la Bisbal" and the "Jove Orquestra de les Comarques Gironines", conducted by Francesc Cassú and David Giménez, and the Coral Puig-Reig.
The concert was part of the Festival del Mil·lenni, and was meant to celebrate the closing of Capitalitat de la Sardana 2014, held in Barcelona
Carreras metaphorically carried high the flag of his country, with a repertoire partly new but familiar at the same time, mixing some of the most popular Sardanas and traditional songs of his country of which he has always been an extraordinary interpreter throughout his career.
The program also included orchestra solo performances, and others protagonized by the choir. The audience reacted with great enthusiasm, rewarding the artist with warm applauses imbued with emotion and patriotism: in particular, two famous Sardanes aroused the patriotic ardor of the Catalan audience, La Santa Espina and Catalunya plora, in which they joined by clapping their hands in rhythm and making that moment even more exciting.
However, the tenor revealed a bit more confortable in those pieces through which he had always expressed his feeling for his country in the world, those which we could mention a lot of unforgettable versions: a chill crossed our bodies with the very first notes of El cant dels ocells, an extraordinary ode to peace this time provided with a more folk arrangement, but still an indispensable intimacy, typical of Carreras' renditions.
Equally appreciated and perceived as familiar even by non Catalan fans are two pieces by Eduard Toldrà, Festeig and Cançó de Grumet, but also Les neus de les muntanyes from zarzuela Cançó d'amor i de guerra by Martínez Valls, and certainly T'estimo by Grieg, that could not miss. There was no intermission, and the Dansaires de les colles sardanistes de Barcelona joined as well to represent the tradition even from a visual aspect, dancing in the parterre among the audience: that happened immediately before the encores, in the meantime, it was the time for flowers.

A crescendo of excitement during the encores: from a thrilling version of Vives' L'emigrant, to an extraordinary rendition of Ribas' Rosó (Pel teu amor), with a grand finale with La Santa Espina, even more emphatic than the version of the official program: the tenor joined the choir but his voice stood out as to stress the message of the lyrics, especially in the vers "Som i serem gent Catalan tant si es vol com si no es vol" (Should people want it or not, we are and will always be Catalan, and the message is always clear. The audience took part even more actively than before, joining the claim spirit that this sardana encloses.
For sure, the chance to attend this concert has been a unique experience: in particular, to listen to Josep Carreras at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, keeping in mind all the unforgettable moments and triumphs that he has collected on that stage is something that hardly can be expressed.
The whole audience warmly and affectionately rewarded with repeated standing ovations and endless bravos this artist unanimously regarded as one of the absolute glories of the country, who privileged a very intimate and sensitive approach, which included lovely nuances, mezzavoce and that kind of elegant phrasing marked with the brand "Carreras"for over forty years.
Unfortunately, his kind of artistry we all admire seemed not always perfectly compatible with the orchestral contribution, because of the nature itself of the repertoire. In fact, sardana is characterized by a loud sound, sometimes shrill, produced by special folk instruments that, sometimes, inevitably covered the voice, so that some nuances just as the delicious mezzavoce could be a bit difficult to hear and to fully appreciate.
