Pure magic and emotion at the Bath of Caracalla and at the Scolacium Park with Josep Carreras

Finalmente Italia! Questa è l'estate che segna il ritorno di Josep Carreras nel bel paese dopo qualche anno di assenza, un'assenza un po' sofferta per i fans italiani che ora, finalmente, potranno godere di ben quattro date nel giro di due mesi. Le prime due, cui questo post è dedicato, si sono già celebrate, mentre domani si terrà il grande ritorno del nostro tenore al Teatro alla Scala, a quasi cinque anni di distanza dall'ultimo concerto, in occasione del quarantesimo anniversario del suo debutto al Piermarini con il capolavoro verdiano Un Ballo in Maschera; per il 13 settembre, invece, è previsto un'altro grande concerto a Matera, capitale europea per il 2019.

Lo scorso 19 luglio si è tenuto il concerto gratuito Caracalla for Unicef, organizzato dal Teatro dell'Opera di Roma e finanziato dal magnate Francis Yeoh, che ha segnato il ritorno di Carreras a Caracalla a 25 anni di distanza dal primo, storico concerto insieme a Plácido Domingo ed il compianto Luciano Pavarotti.

Emozione e nostalgia, questi sono i sentimenti che il tenore catalano ha detto di provare in occasione di questo suo ritorno nelle vesti di ospite d'onore, poiché in questi 25 anni era tornato a Roma diverse volte, ma nessuna di queste proprio a Caracalla dove aveva vissuto quell'esperienza indimenticabile che, purtroppo, non si potrà più ripetere.

Insieme a lui, il soprano Cynthia Lawrence, il giovane mezzosoprano Carly Paoli, i tenori Russell Watson e Alessandro Safina, il flautista Andrea Griminelli, altro protagonista del leggendario concerto di 25 anni fa, e Andrea Bocelli, a gran sorpresa dal momento in cui non era stato annunciato precedentemente. A dirigere la Rome United Orchestra, il maestro David Giménez.

Josep Carreras ha interpretato i brani Vurria, Chitarra Romana, il Concierto de Aranjuez di Rodrigo in duetto con Carly Paoli, brano che avevano inciso insieme di recente a Barcellona, e gran finale con il brano popolare Arrivederci Roma. Il concerto dovrebbe essere trasmesso dalla RAI il prossimo venerdì 7 agosto.

Dopo Caracalla, Carreras ha raggiunto il sud del paese in vista del suo recital per il festival Armonie d'Arte, tenutosi presso il suggestivo Parco Archeologico Scolacium di Roccelletta di Borgia, alle porte di Catanzaro. Al suo fianco, il soprano cinese Daphne Thian Hui e il suo pianista Lorenzo Bavaj.

Il 24 luglio, alla vigilia del recital, si è tenuta la conferenza stampa all'Hotel Ashley di Lamezia Terme, cui ha preso parte anche Chiara Giordano, direttore artistico del festival.

Durante la conferenza stampa, tra altre cose il tenore ha sottolineato l'emozione e e la responsabilità che sente ancora ogni volta che si esibisce, ben lontane dalla routine che si potrebbe ipotizzare in questa fase della sua carriera professionale. Insiste, inoltre, sull'importanza della disciplina, ingrediente fondamentale da accompagnarsi al talento naturale e a un buon maestro, in riferimento ai giovani che intraprendono questa strada e che fanno parte di un'epoca in cui si pensa che il successo debba essere immediato.

L'enorme risonanza che ha avuto questo concerto in territorio calabrese doveva lasciar intendere come il pubblico, locale e non, avrebbe accolto il leggendario tenore una volta salito sul palco nel cuore del Parco Scolacium, la sera del 25 luglio. Critiche entusiastiche, a tratti poetiche, si sono susseguite in questi ultimi giorni, le quali commentano la grandezza smisurata di questo artista, l'emozione, la magia e la poesia che ha donato con grande generosità e l'ambiente caloroso che un pubblico numerosissimo, pervaso da una devozione totale, ha creato a sua volta per omaggiarlo. Nei suddetti articoli ogni brano, che si trattasse di un'esibizione individuale come La Serenata, Passione o Core 'nrgato, o di un duetto con il soprano, ha ricevuto un'attenzione speciale. Una menzione particolare la dedica speciale rivolta al direttore artistico, Chiara Giordano: una squisita 'A Vucchella.

Finally Italy! This summer marks the return of Josep Carreras to the "Belpaese" after a few years of absence, because of which the Italian fans suffered quite a lot, but now we will enjoy four dates in two months. The formers, to which this post is dedicated, have already taken place, while this evening we are going to experience our tenor's comeback at the Teatro alla Scala, almost five years since his latest concert, on occasion of the fortieth anniversary of his debut the at the Piermarini's with Verdi's masterpiece Un Ballo in Maschera; moreover, on September 13, there will be another great concert in Matera, European capital for 2019.

On July 19 was held a free, charity concert, "​​Caracalla for Unicef", organized by the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome and funded by tycoon Francis Yeoh, which marked Carreras' comeback to Caracalla, 25 years after the first historic concert with Plácido Domingo and the late Luciano Pavarotti.

Emotion and nostalgia, these are the feelings that the Catalan tenor said he felt on occasion of his return, this time as guest of honor, because he had returned to Rome several times, but none of them precisely to Caracalla, that place where he had experienced something unforgettable and, sadly, unrepeatable.

With him, soprano Cynthia Lawrence, young mezzo Carly Paoli, tenors Russell Watson and Alessandro Safina, flutist Andrea Griminelli, another star of the legendary concert of 25 years ago, and Andrea Bocelli, a big surprise since his intervention was not previously announced. David Giménez conducted the Rome United Orchestra.

Josep Carreras performed the songs Vurria, Chitarra Romana, the Concierto de Aranjuez by Rodrigo in duet with Carly Paoli, which they had recently recorded together in Barcelona, ​​and the grand finale with the popular Arrivederci Roma. The concert should be broadcast by RAI next Friday, August 7.

After Caracalla, Carreras reached the south of the country in view of his recital for the Armonie d'Arte Festival, held at the impressive  Scolacium archaeological park in Roccelletta of Borgia, near Catanzaro. At his side,  Chinese soprano Daphne Thian Hui, and his pianist Lorenzo Bavaj.

On July 24, the eve of the recital, was held the press conference at the Ashley Hotel in Lamezia Terme, which was also attended by Chiara Giordano, artistic director of the festival.

During the press conference, among other things, the tenor highlighted the emotion and and the responsibility he still feels every time he performs, far away from the routine that could be envisaged at this stage of his career. He also insisted on the importance of discipline, key ingredient to accompany the natural talent and a good teacher, with reference to the young singers and students pursuing this path, who belongs to the era of the "immediate success", something that should not exist.

The enormous resonance such event had was to suggest how the public, local and not, would have welcomed the legendary tenor once he arrived on the stage set in the heart of Scolacium Park, the evening of July 25. Rave, sometimes poetic reports have been published in these days, which comment his huge artistry, the emotion, magic and poetry he generously offered, and the warm ambience that numerous public, pervaded by total devotion, created as sign of gratitude and admiration. In the articles linked above,  each song, no matter if it was an individual performance such as La Serenata, Passion or Core 'nrgato, or a duet with the soprano, received very special attention. Special mention the special dedication to artistic director Chiara Giordano: an exquisite 'A Vucchella.
