There is something in life, in my life, that was able to overcome this extraordinary passion I have for singing, and especially lyrical singing. Whenever the Foundation succeed in finding a compatible donor for patients awaiting a transplant, or every time we make progress in scientific research thanks to one of our scholarships, or when leukaemia patients are treated in transplant units or clinics that we have helped to finance, I feel enormously happy. Thanks to my profession, I am privileged to help or, at least, try to help people in need. In 1987, I became ill with leukaemia. During my illness I was lucky enough to have a family who supported me throughout, to have an extraordinary medical team, in addition to the spontaneous support and sympathy of the general public. This allowed me to maintain my morale and it gave me the necessary energy and determination to fight leukaemia. On July 14th 1988, with the support of my family, eminent scientists and business people, I had the opportunity to create the International Foundation for the Fight Against Leukaemia. Our Foundation focuses on four main areas: supporting scientific research, providing infrastructures for healthcare centres and hospitals, and searching for bone marrow and stem cell donors. All this in addition to offering social services for leukaemia patients and their families. The main mission of the Foundation is to support scientific research. The Josep Carreras Foundation for the Fight Against Leukaemia was born to help make Leukaemia a completely curable disease for everyone and in all cases. Our work will not stop until our goal becomes a reality.

Josep Carreras has sung alone "Passione", and "A Vucchella" with Katia Ricciarelli at the Cavalchina Grand Ball

Giorni di attesa in cui sono state pubblicate soprattutto fotografie, per altro molto belle, ma non sufficienti per darci un'idea completa di come si è svolta la serata al Gran Ballo della Cavalchina, tenutosi presso il Teatro La Fenice di Venezia lo scorso sabato. Sappiamo solo che nel corso dell'evento ha avuto luogo la premiazione di diversi artisti, anche internazionali, con il Cavalchina Award 2012, tra cui anche Josep Carreras e Katia Ricciarelli.

Un solo articolo entra più nel dettaglio, confermando quello che già sapevamo e aggiungendo che la consegna dei premi si è svolta sotto la guida di due noti volti RAI. Katia Ricciarelli, con un vistoso abito rosso, ha atteso poi la premiazione di Josep, che con lei avrebbe condiviso la scena nel duetto di una bellissima canzone d'amore napoletana, A Vucchella, mentre il tenore ha eseguito in solitario "Passione".

Sicuramente uno tra i momenti più emotivi, soprattutto per i "nostalgici dei bei tempi andati" che non possono dimenticare l'intrecciarsi squisito di queste due voci nelle scene operistiche degli anni 70 e 80. Ma nonostante gli anni che son passati, questo splendido brano serba ancora momenti di straordinaria emozione, che per me coincide con la dolcezza appassionata dell'interpretazione di Carreras, che tutt'oggi sa deliziare con quella sua "mezza voce" che lo ha reso unico da sempre. Questa versione, di pochi giorni fa, è una dimostrazione in più di come la complicità scenica tra due grandi artisti, come Ricciarelli e Carreras che hanno condiviso momenti determinanti nella loro carriera, difficilmente può essere minata dal tempo che passa.

Josep Carreras dovrebbe aver cantato anche un brano da solo... ma su questo non è ancora dato sapere.

Josep Carreras and Katia Ricciarelli have been awarded too, among other national and international artists. ◦ For sure, one of the most emotive moments of that night, mostly for those "nostalgic" people of such a glorious past, those who can't forget such exquisite interweave of such two great voice on operatic stages in the 70's and 80's. Besides the years, this wonderful song still preserves moments of extraordinary emotions, that I personally identify with Carreras' passionate sweetness and unique, incredible use of mezza voce I love so much. This is a further testimony that complicity between two great artist, like Ricciarelli and Carreras who shared many top moments of their careers, can hardly be damaged by time. Enjoy!!
