"Die Goldene Deutschland" Award in Hamburg: Jonas Kaufmann performed the laudatio for Josep Carreras and they sang together for the first time ever
Domenica 12 si è tenuta la cerimonia di premiazione del "Die Goldene Deutschland" presso la nave MS Deutschland nel porto di Amburgo. Tra i premiati figuravano anche Josep Carreras e Jonas Kaufmann per i loro ammirevoli servizi prestati alla società tedesca. La cerimonia è stata trasmessa per intero lunedì sera alle 22:35 dal canale televisivo Sat.1 Gold, come avevo segnalato ai tempi dell'annuncio nella sezione delle Breaking News. Oltre ad essere stato onorato con lo stesso premio, Jonas Kaufmann era incaricato della laudatio per Josep Carreras, a detta sua un onore ancora maggiore poiché rivolta a qualcuno che ammira moltissimo. Ciò che ha conferito un valore speciale al suo discorso, colmo di parole di profonda stima ed affetto, è stato proprio il suo particolare punto di vista: non era un presentatore, un esperto qualunque, a tentare di descrivere l'arte di Carreras, bensì un tenore come lui, uno dei maggiori esponenti della generazione attuale che inevitabilmente si è ispirato ai grandi esempi del passato. Kaufmann ha citato come esempio l'Adriana Lecouvreur che Carreras ha cantato a Tokyo nel 1976, insieme a Montserrat Caballé, affermando che per quanto si possa conoscere a memoria un brano che si ama e averlo ascoltato infinite volte, con l'interpretazione di qualcuno come Josep Carreras si ha la sensazione di ascoltarlo davvero per la prima volta. In particular, he wanted to sincerely thank Jonas Kaufmann, whom he considers, being a veteran, the greatest tenor of our days, for the touching words he addressed in the laudatio.
Then it was time for a short interview in which Carreras said that music has always been an important part of his life and, beyond the luxury that his profession is exactly his vocation, music and singing has helped him even in the most difficult moments.
After that, he ironically asked if being referred to as the "Initiator of The Three Tenors" was meant as a compliment, and then he explained how the idea came from a proposal he was made to sing in Rome on occasion of the World Cup of 1990, he decided to extended to Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo, so to celebrate the fact of being together again after the hard time he had to go through. As a result of experiences such as fighting against leukemia, Carreras explained, the way you see life changes, your priorities change: at the beginning, when doctors give you green light you think you'll make everything differently, but human beings gradually returs to commit some of the same mistakes of the past. However, he believes to be more mature than ever before, more indulgent and more aware of the importance of dialogue of problems of other people.
After having been invited to sing, his response was interrupted by an applause from the audience to which he replied with a tender and shy smile: it was evident that he was at ease.
Together with his pianist Lorenzo Bavaj and a string quartet, our tenor delighted his audience with an overwhelming version of Passione, by resorting to any means of his voice to give life to the title of this song by Nicola Valente. In front of a standing ovation, Josep Carreras said he was encouraged to continue for another thirty years: he was not serious, but actually his phrase revealed how much the warmth of the public is still rewarding for an artist with over forty years of career behind.
