"Il Video della Settimana": Josep Carreras sings Un'Ombra (Warsaw Concerto by Richard Addinsell)

Benvenuti per un nuovo Video della Settimana.

Per questa settimana opterò per l'idea iniziale che avevo avuto, la quale, ammetto, è stata messa a repentaglio da una valida alternativa, se vogliamo ancora più ricca di motivazioni: questa per motivi tecnici e organizzativi verrà rimandata, ma non temete, non tarderà ad arrivare.

Oggi voglio comunque proporvi un brano che mi ha accompagnata durante tutta questa settimana, uno molto particolare che spesso Josep Carreras offre come encore durante i suoi concerti o recital: si tratta di Un'Ombra, una canzone adattata dal Warsaw Concerto ad opera del compositore inglese Richard Addinsell. Questo, originariamente, nasce nel 1941 come un concerto per pianoforte ed è stato destinato al celebre film Dangerous Moonlight.

Josep Carreras ce lo propone come brano di apertura del suo album Pure Passion del 1999, un progetto discografico di grande successo che ha fatto seguito al precedente Passion del 1996.
In entrambi i dischi, Carreras ha voluto riunire molti brani di natura strumentale, ovvero originariamente pensati per strumento solista oppure orchestra, ma che tuttavia ha sempre sognato di poter cantare. Per poter realizzare questo desiderio, è stato necessario trascrivere ed arrangiare la melodia per voce, oltre ad assegnarle un testo che potesse rispecchiare l'opera, al fine di ottenere un complesso comunque fedele all'originale.

In questo modo, il celebre Warsaw Concerto di Addinsell è stato trasformato in Un'Ombra dal testo in versi sia in italiano sia in polacco dai parolieri Bizzarri e Marcucci, i quali hanno scelto parole estremamente musicali che si sposano magnificamente con l'intensità della musica.

Il testo parla di un sentimento rivolto, in apparenza inspiegabilmente, a qualcosa di ignoto e paragonabile ad un'ombra che accompagna il protagonista del brano.
La voce straordinaria e l'infallibile istinto interpretativo di Josep Carreras portano Un'Ombra, insieme a tutti gli altri brani di queste due ambiziosi progetti discografici, ad un risultato eccellente che, per nostra fortuna, viene di tanto in tanto riproposto per esaltare i momenti di grande intensità in fase conclusiva di concerti e recital. 

Purtroppo non dispongo di un video autentico, ma l'audio da solo è più che sufficiente per abbandonarsi ad emozioni autentiche.

Ora che me ne accorgo, le parole Warsaw Concerto mi rimandano ad un concerto che il nostro Josep ha cantato esattamente un anno fa, il 4 Novembre, a Varsavia. Che sia una coincidenza? Godetevela!!

This week, I am going to choose the initial idea that I had which, I admit, has been undermined by a velid alternative with even more reasons to be chosen: technical and organizational problems have forced me to postpone it, but do not worry, it won't be late.
So, today I would like to offer a song I've been listening to several times throughout this week, a very special  one Josep Carreras often offers as encore during his concerts and recitals: Un'Ombra (A Shadow) is a song adapted from the Warsaw Concerto by the English composer Richard Addinsell. This original was composed in 1941 as a piano concert and was designed to the famous film Dangerous Moonlight.

◦ Josep Carreras proposed it as the opening track of his album Pure Passion of 1999, a successful record that followed the previous one, Passion, released in 1996. In both albums, Carreras has gathered many pieces characterised by an instrumental nature, in the sense that they were originally conceived for instrumental solos or orchestra, but which he has always longed to sing. To make this dream come true, it was necessary to transcribe and arrange the melody for voice solo, then to assign lyrics that could properly reflect the opera, in order to obtain a result that was faithful to the original.
In this way, the famous Warsaw Concerto by Addinsell has been transformed into Un'Ombra (A Shadow)  through  the lyrics written both in Italian and in Polish  by lyricists Bizzarri and Marcucci: they  chose words  whose musicality blends beautifully with the intensity of the music .
The text is about a feeling addressed, appearently with no reason, to something unknown and comparable to a shadow that accompanies the protagonist of the song.
◦ The extraordinary voice and unfailing instinct for interpretation of Josep Carreras lead Un'Ombra, along with all the other songs of these two ambitious recording project, to an excellent result: luckily for us, it is frequently offered during concerts and recitals, in order to underline the intensity of such moments.
Unfortunately, no real video is available, but the audio itself is more than enough to evoke authentic emotions.
I've realised just now that the words Warsaw Concerto recmind me to  a concert that our Josep sang in Warsaw exactly one year ago, on November 4th 2011. Is it just coincidence? Enjoy it!
