Josep Carreras created an amazing atmosphere with his wonderful concert in Budapest

Dopo appena cinque giorni dalla sua ultima data della prima parte del tour in Estremo Oriente, Josep Carreras ha offerto il primo straordinario concerto natalizio in Europa, presso la Syma Hall di Budapest: è stato accompagnato dal soprano Nataliya Kovalova e dal Coro e Orchestra Filarmonica Kodály di Debrecen, diretta da David Giménez.

Questo concerto è stato atteso a lungo dal pubblico ungherese, poiché in realtà avrebbe dovuto realizzarsi l'anno scorso in altra sede, ma rinviato a causa di problemi tecnici.

Josep Carreras ha predisposto un programma particolare che ha privilegiato nella prima parte il suo repertorio abituale, adeguando invece la seconda all'atmosfera natalizia.

Dopo l'esecuzione orchestrale della Farandole dell'Arlésienne Suite di Georges Bizet, Josep Carreras, acclamatissimo da un pubblico entusiasta che ha atteso a lungo, ha scelto di dare avvio al concerto con un paio di canzoni napoletane quali Marchiare e Passione, risultando subito intenso tanto da portare il pubblico già nel vivo, per poi seguire con l'irrinunciabile catalana Rosó (Pel teu amor). Nataliya Kovalova si è presentata al pubblico dopo la parentesi partenopea offerta dal grande tenore con Song to the Moon, dalla Rusalka di Dvorak e successivamente con Les Filles de Cadix di Délibes. Dopo un secondo momento dedicato alla sola orchestra con il vivacissimo intermezzo de La Boda de Luis Alonso di Jiménez, ha avuto luogo il primo duetto della serata sempre sulla scia della zarzuela con lo strepitoso Dúo y Jota de la Africana, occasione di brillante interpretazione per entrambi, motivo di grande intrattenimento per un pubblico rimasto subito dopo incantato dalla straordinaria versione che Josep Carreras ha offerto di The Impossible Dream dal musical The Man of La Mancha di Leigh.

Come già accennato, la seconda parte ha assunto toni e colori del Natale, proponendo i brani tradizionali più amati di queste festività: un'apertura in grande stile con una magnifica Adeste Fideles eseguita da Carreras, in lingua latina e inglese, insieme al coro, seguita da un'intima e toccante interpretazione di Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Il tenore si è successivamente alternato con Nataliya Kovalova, protagonista assoluta di un momento che non può mai mancare con la celebre Ave Maria di Bach - Gounod, la quale si è poi ricongiunta con Carreras e il coro per un altro brano irrinunciabile quale Cantique de Noël, emotiva come sempre. 

Orchestra e Coro si sono in seguito riuniti in un vivacissimo medley di brani natalizi molto tradizionali come Jingle Bells, Santa Clous is coming to town, Happy Christmas (War is Over) e We wish you a Merry Christmas.

Non poteva mancare il duetto de Little Drummer Boy, noto anche come Carol of the Drum, brano particolarmente amato da Carreras che, con la sua carismatica interpretazione insieme al soprano, riesce ogni volta a conquistarci.

Per concludere, una gloriosa Joy to the World interpretata dal soprano, e "la quintessenza della canzone di Natale", White Christmas, una straordinaria chiusura ad effetto del programma ufficiale affidata a Josep Carreras e garantita nel migliore dei modi.

Sei gli encores concessi, una sequenza in crescendo che sembrava squisitamente infinita: in linea con l'atmosfera della seconda parte, Josep Carreras ha scelto I'll be home for Christmas, proposito che per lui quest'anno avverrà solo nei sogni, come nel brano, a causa di impegni a Pechino. Ancora ammaliato dal finale di questa splendida canzone, il pubblico è stato messo a dura prova emotiva dalla versione del soprano di O mio babbino caro dal Gianni Schicchi. Ancora Carreras con Chitarra Romana, solitamente primo encore dei suoi concerti tradizionali, per poi concludere con tre duetti: Non ti scordar di me, il Brindisi di La Traviata e, ovviamente, una Silent Night in tre lingue, in Catalano, Inglese e Tedesco che ha scaldato il cuore di tutti con quella magia che solo Josep sa creare. Era in splendida forma, la voce è risultata in ottime condizioni e l'energia e l'amore per il suo mestiere sembravano inesauribili!!

Dopo il concerto, concluso con interminabili e calorosissime ovazioni, i presenti in possesso del VIP ticket sono stati invitati ad un breve Meet and Greet, con snack e cocktails, successivamente raggiunti da Josep Carreras che ha ringraziato tutti in Inglese per l'atmosfera, ribadendo quanto fosse felice di essere a Budapest e desideroso di tornarci ancora, e rivolgendo a tutti i migliori auguri di Buon Natale e per l'anno nuovo 2014. Era sorridente e sembrava molto felice e a suo agio nell'ambiente: ovviamente il suo pubblico lo adora e gli è riconoscente per aver ricevuto in regalo più di due ore di autentica magia.

Just five days after his last recital of the first part of his Far East tour, Josep Carreras offered the first extraordinary Christmas concert in Europe, at the Syma Hall in Budapest: he was accompanied by soprano Nataliya Kovalova and Kodály Choir and Philharmonic Orchestra Debrecen, conducted by David Giménez.

This concert has been long-awaited by the Hungarian public, because it actually hed to be held last year in another venue, but cancelled due to technical problems.

Josep Carreras prepared a special program that has focused on the first part on his traditional repertoire, adapting the second one to the Christmas atmosphere instead.

After the performance  of the Arlésienne Suite's Farandole by Georges Bizet by  the orchestra, Josep Carreras, acclaimed by an enthusiastic audience full of expectation, chose to start the concert with a couple of Neapolitan songs such as Marechiare and Passione, immediately intense so as to bring the audience already to the core, and then followed with the indispensable Catalan song Rosó (Pel teu amor). Nataliya Kovalova presented herself to the public after the Neapolitan parenthesis offered by our tenor, with Song to the Moon from Dvorak's Rusalka, and then with Les Filles de Cadix by Delibes. After a second moment dedicated to the sole orchestra with the lively intermezzo of La Boda de Luis Alonso by Jiménez, after which the first duet of the night, still in the wake of zarzuela, was performed with the resounding Dúo de la Africana, always a opportunity for a brilliant interpretation for both: in a moment, the soprano translated the word "vete" (go away" in Hungarian, and this was loved by the entertained audience, later enchanted by Josep Carreras' extraordinary rendition of The Impossible Dream, from the musical The Man of La Mancha by Leigh .

As already mentioned, the second part was given tones and colors of Christmas, by offering some of the most beloved traditional songs: an opening in grand style with a magnificent Adeste Fideles performed by Carreras, in Latin and English, along with the choir, followed by his intimate and touching interpretation of Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas. The tenor then alternated with Nataliya Kovalova, protagonist of a moment that can never miss, with the famous Ave Maria by Bach - Gounod, to join then Carreras and the chorus again, for another essential piece such as Cantique de Noël , incredibly emotional as ever.

Orchestra and Choir then performed together a very lively medley of traditional Christmas songs, such as Jingle Bells, Santa Clous is Coming to Town , Happy Christmas (War is Over) and We wish you a Merry Christmas.

Another expected duet was Little Drummer Boy, also known as Carol of the Drum, a song Carreras really likes a lot, which always makes an extremely charismatic performance of that conquers all fo us every time. Now we love it too!!

Finally, a glorious Joy to the World sung by the soprano, and "the quintessential of Christmas songs" White Christmas, an extraordinary effect closure of the official program headed by Josep Carreras and guaranteed in the best way . Both his voice and himself appeared in a very good shape, and his energy and love for what he does in live seemed unlimited.

Six encores were offered, a sequence in crescendo that seemed have no end: in line with the atmosphere of the second part, Josep Carreras chose I'll be home for Christmas, that for him this year will take place only in dreams , like in the song, due to commitments in Beijing. Still fascinated by the charming finale of this beautiful song, the audience was put to the test by the emotional version of O mio babbino caro from Gianni Schicchi, performed by the soprano . Once again, the sole Carreras with Chitarra Romana, usually the first encore of his traditional concerts, and then three duets: Non ti scordar di me, the Brindisi from La Traviata and, of course, Silent Night in three languages, in Catalan English and German, which definitely warmed the heart of the audience with all of that magic that only Josep can create.

After the concert, ended with the endless and enthusiastic standing ovations, people owning VIP tickets were invited to a brief Meet and Greet, with snacks and drinks, later joined by Josep Carreras who thanked everyone "in his English" (just to quote his words) for the atmosphere, stressing that he was happy to be in Budapest and eager to come back again, with the best wishes for a Happy Christmas and for the New Year 2014. He was smiling and looked very happy and at ease: obviously his audience adores him and is grateful to him for receiving such a wonderful gift, over two hours of real magic.
