"Il Video della Settimana": Josep Carreras sings "Il Nostro Concerto" feat. Lang Lang (U. Bindi) from his new album "25 - Meraviglioso"

Oggi vorrei dedicarmi a qualcosa di molto recente, la realizzazione di un progetto discografico che ha contribuito a rendere speciale il 2013 appena trascorso: come ben ricorderete, lo scorso 6 dicembre è uscito il nuovo album di Josep Carreras, "25 - Meraviglioso", un disco a scopo benefico per celebrare il quarto di secolo trascorso dalla sua vittoriosa battaglia contro la leucemia e dalla nascita della sua Fondazione per la lotta contro questa malattia. Mi auguro davvero che siate riusciti tutti a procurarvi una copia dell'album e ad ascoltarlo perché il risultato è straordinario: sono brani che hanno accompagnato il nostro tenore per tutta la vita, e che ha scelto di interpretare in chiave un po' più classica, collaborando in alcuni casi con altri artisti d'eccezione. 

Ancora prima della pubblicazione, Josep aveva eseguito in anteprima a Vienna la title track, Meraviglioso, di Domenico Modugno, brano di apertura dell'album, un piccolo anticipo dell'atmosfera e della sonorità del disco. 

Ora vi propongo di scorrere la scaletta delle canzoni fino a raggiungere la posizione opposta. In coda alla tracklist trovate uno dei classici della canzone italiana, forse il capolavoro assoluto del grande Umberto Bindi, membro della cosiddetta scuola genovese dei cantautori insieme a Fabrizio De Andrè, Luigi Tenco, Bruno Lauzi e Gino Paoli, che rinnovarono notevolmente la musica leggera in Italia. Scritta nel 1960 su testo di Giorgio Calabrese, "Il Nostro Concerto" è un brano rivelatore degli studi classici di Bindi, in cui si possono riscontrare echi sinfonici che rimandano a grandi compositori come Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, ma soprattutto Addinsell, per altro tutti nomi che in un modo o nell'altro ritroviamo nel repertorio di Carreras, specialmente negli album in cui ha presentato in versione cantata brani di natura strumentale.

Chi possiede l'album Amigos Para Siempre (Friends For Life) - Romantic Songs of the World, ricorderà bene che questa del 2013 non è stata la prima incisione che il nostro tenore ha realizzato del brano di Bindi: "Il Nostro Concerto" figurava proprio in cima alla scaletta, in una versione sempre bellissima, leggermente più lenta, che potete ascoltare qui.
Tuttavia, a distanza di vent'anni, la sua voce non ha perso minimamente quella sensualità incredibile che lo rende ideale in questo repertorio, in musiche toccanti e romantiche come quella in questione.

Il buon gusto e un fraseggio sempre al massimo dell'eleganza dà il giusto risalto ad un testo assolutamente all'altezza della musica, una dedica commovente ad un amore ormai concluso: tuttavia, l'impatto incredibile che parole e musica insieme esercitano ci permettono di andare oltre questa interpretazione, e di renderla personale, adattandola alla situazione che più ci sta a cuore.

Ovviamente, l'impronta del talentuoso pianista Lang Lang, inconfondibile nel suo tocco, impreziosisce ulteriormente questa versione più tarda in coda a "25 - Meraviglioso", garantendone una chiusura sontuosa ed emotiva. Godetevela!!

Today, I would like to focus on something very recent, the creation of a recording project that contributed to make the just spent 2013 a very special year: as you surely remember, on last 6 December, was released Josep Carreras' new album, "25 - Meraviglioso", a charity recording to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his victorious battle against leukemia, and the establishment of his Foundation for the fight against this disease. As reported on the album, it is supposed to be an ode to life and all that wonderful things it can offer. If you want you can read again the post published on the same day.

I really hope that all of you were able to get a copy of the album and could listen to it, because the result is really extraordinary: there are songs Josep has been listening to all his life, and he wanted to make a more classical, personal interpretation, in some cases with some other exceptional artists.

Even before the release date, Josep had performed in Vienna the title track, Meraviglioso by Domenico Modugno, on top song of the list, a small advance of the delightful atmosphere and the sound of the disc.

Now, my purpose is to scroll through the lineup of the fourteen songs until you reach the opposite position. At the bottom of the tracklist you will find one of the classics of Italian song, perhaps the masterpiece of the great Umberto Bindi, a member of the so-called Genoese school of songwriters, together with Fabrizio De André, Luigi Tenco, Gino Paoli and Bruno Lauzi, who considerably renewed the light music in Italy. 

With lyrics written by Giorgio Calabrese in 1960, "Il Nostro Concerto" is a song which reveals the classical studies of Bindi, where you can find symphonic echoes of some great composers such as Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, but especially Addinsell, all big names that, in one way or another, we find in our tenor's repertoire, especially in the albums in which he selected some of the most appreciated pieces of classical , instrumental music, adapted to voice with lyrics.

Those of you who owns the album "Amigos Para Siempre (Friends For Life) - Romantic Songs of the World",  should well remember this is not the first recording our tenor has made ​​this song by Bindi: "Il Nostro Concerto" is the opening track of this album, a very beautiful version as well, maybe a little slower, you can listen to here.

However, twenty years later, his is still provided with the same incredible sensuality that makes him ideal in this repertoire of touching and romantic music this song belongs to.

His good taste and his exquisitem amazingly elegant phrasing gives the right emphasis to the lyrics absolutely up to the wonderful music, a touching dedication to someone he had loved: the songs says "wherever you are, if you listen to, you will see me again by your side, and will find a bit of me in a concert dedicated to you". However, the incredible impact that words and music together allow us to go beyond this interpretation, and make it ours , adapting to the situation which concearns us most.

Obviously, the imprint of the talented pianist Lang Lang, in his unmistakable touch, further enhances this version, actually a sumptuous and emotional closure of the new album, "25 - Meraviglioso". Enjoy it!!
