"El Juez": the cast for the Russian premiere at the Mariinsky in Saint Petersburg
Manca meno di una settimana al debutto del titolo che il compositore Christian Kolonovits ha dedicato a Josep Carreras, per il suo ritorno nella scena operistica, presso il Mariinsky II di San Pietroburgo: la prima tappa del 2015 per El Juez (Los niños perdidos), presentata per la prima volta al Teatro Arriaga di Bilbao il 26 aprile del 2014. Rispetto alla prima bilbaina, a Erl l'opera aveva già presentato qualche modifica, in parte anche adattata alle caratteristiche del palco tirolese. Chissà che Kolonovits non abbia in serbo per noi altre sorprese... lo scopriremo presto.
Nel frattempo, il sito web del Mariinsky Theatre ha reso noti i dettagli delle due recite. In primo luogo, il cast presenta qualche novità per l'occasione. Ovviamente, Josep Carreras indosserà ancora i panni del nostro giudice Federico e, allo stesso modo, Carlo Colombara, Ana Ibarra, Itziar de Unda e Milagros Martín vestiranno quelli rispettivamente dello spietato Morales, della Badessa, di una monaca e della signora anziana. Un'altra presenza costante e preziosa, la vocal coach, pianista e collaboratrice Husan Park.
Vedremo invece nel ruolo della giornalista Paula il soprano italiano Gladys Rossi, che negli ultimi anno ha affiancato spesso Carreras nei concerti; ad interpretare il cantautore Alberto sarà il tenore Stanislav Leontiev, il cameraman Paco sarà il baritono Andrei Spekhov e la governante Maria il mezzosoprano Marina Mareskina.
David Giménez dirigerà il Coro e l'Orchestra del Mariinsky. La premiere russa avrà luogo giovedì prossimo, 15 gennaio, con replica la domenica, 18 gennaio, entrambe alle 19:00 ora locale.

Less than a week to the Russian premiere of the work that Austrian composer Christian Kolonovits dedicated to Josep Carreras, for his return to the opera stage. It will be held at the Mariinsky II in St. Petersburg: the first stop of 2015, further ones to be soon announced. El Juez (Los niños perdidos) was presented for the first time at the Teatro Arriaga of Bilbao on April 26, 2014. Compared to the world premiere version, later the opera showed some changes, partly adapted to the feature of the Tyrolean stage in Erl. Who knows? Kolonovits might have further surprises for us... we'll find it out soon.
Meanwhile, the Mariinsky Theatre website has announced the details for these two upcoming performances. The cast seems to have some new members for this occasion. Obviously, Josep Carreras is going to performe the title role, Judge Federico, and furthermore Carlo Colombara, Ana Ibarra, Itziar de Unda and Milagros Martín will respectively perform again Morales, the Abbess, a nun and the old lady. Another important and constant point, the contribution of the vocal coach, pianist and collaborator Husan Park.
We will see the Italian soprano Gladys Rossi in the role of journalist Paula, who has often joined Carreras on concert stages, then the tenor Stanislav Leontiev well be the songwriter Alberto, the cameraman Paco will be interpreted by baritone Andrei Spekhov and the housekeeper Maria will be sung by mezzo soprano Marina Mareskina.

The Russian premiere will take place next Thursday, January 15, with replica on Sunday, January 18, both at 7pm local time.
