"I am overwhelmed by this sustained support from the German audience and very, very grateful. This loyalty is not granted in today's television time. Every euro helps to save lives and alleviate suffering. Our big goal is to make leukemia curable. Always and for everyone. We have already achieved a lot in this direction. I regularly meet patients to encourage them and see more and more of them defeat the disease. " said Josep Carreras at the end of the Gala.
As reported on their website, the German José Carreras Leukemia Foundation has already raised more than € 220 million in donations for the fight against leukaemia and other blood and bone marrow diseases, thereby initiating over 1,200 research and social projects.
Josep Carreras was accompanied by co-host Nina Eichinger, panel captain Matthias Killing, news spokeswoman Marlene Lufen and outdoor reporter Peter Hardenacke. Hosted for the second time at the Bavaria Studios in Munich, the 24. José Carreras Gala was broadcast live by SAT.1 Gold.
Once again it was a really successful edition, extremely interesting both on artistic and human side. We got to know the stories of so many super heroes: some of them won their battle against leukaemia, some others unfortunately couldn't make it, and some others again are fighting as authentic warriors; all of them are really inspiring examples. As usual, the videos of some of Josep Carreras' visits to patients have been shared during the program, in an extremely respectful way.
In this unstoppable fight against leukaemia, numerous international and national stars supported Josep Carreras on the music stage: Jonas Kaufmann, David Garrett, Nico Santos, Heinz Rudolf Kunze, Santiano, Christina Stürmer, Michael Schulte, LEA, Raphaela Gromes, Sophie Pacini, The Medicus and the Regensburg Cathedral Choir.
