Josep Carreras: Josep avui fa 65 anys: moltíssimes felicitats!!

There is something in life, in my life, that was able to overcome this extraordinary passion I have for singing, and especially lyrical singing. Whenever the Foundation succeed in finding a compatible donor for patients awaiting a transplant, or every time we make progress in scientific research thanks to one of our scholarships, or when leukaemia patients are treated in transplant units or clinics that we have helped to finance, I feel enormously happy. Thanks to my profession, I am privileged to help or, at least, try to help people in need. In 1987, I became ill with leukaemia. During my illness I was lucky enough to have a family who supported me throughout, to have an extraordinary medical team, in addition to the spontaneous support and sympathy of the general public. This allowed me to maintain my morale and it gave me the necessary energy and determination to fight leukaemia. On July 14th 1988, with the support of my family, eminent scientists and business people, I had the opportunity to create the International Foundation for the Fight Against Leukaemia. Our Foundation focuses on four main areas: supporting scientific research, providing infrastructures for healthcare centres and hospitals, and searching for bone marrow and stem cell donors. All this in addition to offering social services for leukaemia patients and their families. The main mission of the Foundation is to support scientific research. The Josep Carreras Foundation for the Fight Against Leukaemia was born to help make Leukaemia a completely curable disease for everyone and in all cases. Our work will not stop until our goal becomes a reality.

Josep avui fa 65 anys: moltíssimes felicitats!!

Sono diversi giorni che sento una forte emozione dovuta al significato della data di oggi, che la attendo con ansia... ma come di consueto, ogni 5 di Dicembre incorro nel “blocco dello scrittore”. A maggior ragione, perché questo 5 di Dicembre è ancora più speciale, visto che il nostro Josep di anni ne compie 65: un numero “molt rodó”, tanto da indurlo a “mirar pel retrovisor” e redattare con Màrius Carol le sue Memòries De Viva Veu. In un’intervista precedente, lo stesso Josep disse che la sua non è un’età per festeggiare il compleanno. Sempre che i giornalisti abbiano riportato fedelmente il suo pensiero.

Penso di rappresentare tutti i carreristi convinti nel dire che non possiamo fare a meno di festeggiare, di sentirci vicino a Josep per questo traguardo: i suoi, per ora, sessantacinque anni di vita.

Certo, è un numero rotondo… ma leggero abbastanza da permettergli di fare ancora tutto quanto lo renda felice, rendendo felici anche gli altri: che sia per un’emozione scaturita dalla sincerità e dal fascino del suo fraseggio, o per la speranza che infonde a chi, costretto in un letto d’ospedale, lotta per salvare la propria vita contro la stessa malattia che il tenore affrontò vittoriosamente 24 anni fa.

Josep lo scrive proprio nella sua biografia "Creo que lo mejor que me ha pasado en la vida es que otros puedan ver en mí la esperanza": forse è proprio in quest'ottica che sessantacinque anni assumono un valore ancora più grande e nobile, ma anche per noi che lo ammiriamo tantissimo come artista, per la voce e soprattutto per il suo modo di cantare che parla al cuore, il valore rimane altissimo. E se a tutto questo aggiungiamo il fatto che, anche come persona, Josep è sempre riuscito a conquistare l'affetto e la stima delle persone, lo rende a tutti gli effetti un punto di riferimento, una luce speciale nella vita di molti di noi.
