"Il Video della Settimana": Josep Carreras and Sarah Brightman sing Amigos para siempre (Friends for life) for the Olympic closing ceremony of Barcelona 1992

Buona settimana a tutti!!

Key facts:

Welcome for a new Video of the Week.
◦ As we have already celebrated the London 2012 Olympic Games, remembering the best part of the opening ceremony of Barcelona '92, now that they have come to the end, I can't but propose you the clou moment of the closing ceremony in Barcelona, the proper hymn of the Olympics of 1992.
For those of you who don't know the story, I suggest you to read the related chapter of the book of memoirs A viva voz, De viva veu or Aus vollem Herzen. Anyway I'll try to sum it up.
◦ As I had already told you two weeks ago,  Josep Carreras had been assigned the role fo Musical Director of the Olympics, and so he was seriously committed also from the organizational aspect. They need a sort of hymn, something to be the symbol of the Games in Barcelona, to be remembered throughout the years. A perfect idea was necessary, and Josep Carreras had it, with his purpose of calling the british musical composer Andrey Lloyd Webber. Carreras was the only one who could call him, and few days later Lloyd Webber opened the door of his house in London, which looked much more like a pynacoteque due to those Caravaggios paintings on the wall, sat at the grand piano without sheets, and start playing Amigos para siempre. Carreras understood immediatly that it was going to be the right piece: at the beginning he thought that he would sing it with Gloria Estefan, but then the composer preferred his ex-wife, Sarah Brightman.
The two singers met each other few days before the closing ceremony, and recorded the official video of the song in the Plaça del Rei in Barcelona.
◦ Both for Lloyd Webber's and Carreras' contribution, this song fulfilled every purpose and became a symbol that we all remember even 20 years later.
This music often plays during the shows of the Montjuïc Magic Fountain, and I had the opportunity to listen to it so many times between water coloured jets.
If you're wondering how Carreras could have sung it now, I leave you here also his version with Daniella Mass, he sang in Colombia few months ago.
Here there is the Olympic closing ceremony version of it. Enjoy!!!

Hope you have appreciated the proposal of today. See you next Sunday for a new video. Have you all a nice week!!
