"Il Video della Settimana": The Three Tenors sing "New York, New York" plus Josep Carreras' performance at the Vienna Opernball 2008

Benvenuti per un nuovo Video della Settimana.

Questa è un'altra di quelle edizioni che presentano non uno ma due video in quanto le ricorrenze (questa volta le ho trovate!) sono più di una: a dire il vero sarebbero anche più di due, ma cercherò di privilegiare le seguenti per offrire un repertorio di video più vario.

Una data che non possiamo dimenticare è quella del 12 Ottobre, giorno del compleanno del nostro amato Luciano Pavarotti: il grande tenore di Modena avrebbe compiuto 77 anni. Ci sarebbero tantissimi modi per ricordarlo: alcuni di questi li ho proposti due giorni fa su facebook, con qualche fotografia significativa ed evocatrice di ricordi che ci sono cari, o con l'immancabile tributo che gli hanno rivolto Josep e Plácido Domingo un anno dopo la sua scomparsa nel concerto organizzato a Petra, (video). Questa loro performance suscita sempre emozioni molto forti per la loro introduzione commossa, per come le loro voci si intrecciano, ancora una volta, per rendere omaggio all'amico che non c'è più, per come al termine del brano Josep rivolga il suo sguardo verso l'alto a cercare Luciano. Non importa quante volte si riguardi questo video: l'emozione è sempre viva e porta nel cuore tanta nostalgia.

Luciano Pavarotti però era un brillante, e questo suo tratto era tangibile in un altro brano che ho condiviso su facebook. Certo, in molti potrebbero storcere il naso se non si ricorda Pavarotti con uno qualsiasi dei grandi momenti operistici che ci ha regalato. Sono però abbastanza onesta da ammettere che non conosco la sua carriera quanto quella di Carreras, e che il mio intento principale era ricordare qualcosa in più oltre al grande tenore.
Questo è uno dei motivi per cui anche oggi mi piace ricordarlo in modo diverso, mitigando la malinconia con un sorriso, perché non si potrebbe reagire diversamente di fronte a questa esilarante performance dei Tre Tenori nel brano New York, New York, parte di un concerto che hanno cantato nel New Jersey nel 1996. È inutile girarci intorno: Luciano, come Josep e Plácido, era anche questo, un essere umano che talvolta sapeva prescindere dalla serietà che esigeva l'essere una stella dell'opera, che era professionale pur sapendosi divertire, e il pubblico lo amava anche per questo. Un altro momento grandioso firmato Carreras Domingo Pavarotti. Godetevelo!! 

Detto questo, non posso certo ignorare che esattamente un anno fa, il 14 Ottobre 2011, Josep si esibiva alla Konzerthaus di Vienna con un programma speciale dal titolo Liebe und Leidenschaft, ovvero Amore e Passione.

Chi ha familiarità con il percorso professionale sa perfettamente quanto significhi per Carreras esibirsi a Vienna, con quanta intensità viva ogni concerto in una città che ha sempre occupato un ruolo privilegiato nel suo cuore fin dalla sua primissima visita nei primi anni 70, come lui stesso ha affermato sempre, anche nel suo discorso dopo aver ricevuto la Medaglia Onoraria della Città di Vienna (video). Josep Carreras farà sempre parte storia di questa città, ed è per questo che non posso dimenticarmi di questo ultimo concerto straordinario cui ho avuto la fortuna di assistere, un'occasione irrinunciabile che mi ha portata a Vienna per la prima volta facendomene innamorare perdutamente.
Di quella serata è disponibile solo qualche fotografia, nessun video. Mi accontenterò quindi di celebrare questa data in altro modo: non sarà opera perché dopo l'Elisir della scorsa settimana la tengo prevista per altre occasioni, ma precisamente con la sua performance all'Opernball del 31 Gennaio 2008 con due dei brani considerati "la sua specialità": Vurria e Passione, quella stessa che lo legherà a Vienna per sempre. Godetevelo!!

◦ This is another of those editions that deals not with one but with two videos as occurrences (this time I found some!) are more than one: to tell the truth there would be more than two, but I will try to focus on the following ones to offer a more varied repertoire of video.

A date we can not forget October 12, the birthday of our beloved Luciano Pavarotti: the great tenor from Modena would have turned 77 years old. There would be plenty of ways to remember this anniversary: I proposed some two days ago on facebook, with some meaningful photo evoking memories that are dear to us, or with the wonderful tribute that Josep and Plácido Domingo paid to him, one year after his death, as part of a concert organized in Petra (video). This performance always arouses strong emotions for their moving introduction, the way their voices combine, once again, to honour the memory of their friend,  for the eway Josep looked upwards like to seek Luciano, in some way, at the end of the song. No matter how many times you watch this video: the emotion is still alive and brings such great nostalgy in the heart.

◦ Luciano Pavarotti, however, was a brilliant person, and this detail was tangible in another piece I shared on facebook. Of course, many people might disagree if you do not remember Pavarotti with any of his outstanding operatic moments he has given us. Anyway, I am honest enough to admit that I am not familiar with Pavarotti's career as much as with Carreras'one, and that my main aim was to remember something more than the great tenor he was. This is one reason why even now I would like to remember him in a different way, mitigating our sadness with a smile, because you can't react any different with such exhilarating performance signed by the Three Tenors with the song New York, New York: it was  part of a concert they sang in New Jersey in 1996. The truth is that Pavarotti, like Josep and Plácido, was also like this: a human being who sometimes can go far beyond the "seriousness" required by the fact being an opera star, who was professional but knowing how to entertain both the audience and himself, and the audience loved him for this too. Another great moment signed Carreras Domingo Pavarotti. Enjoy it!

◦ Said this, I can not ignore the fact that exactly one year ago, on October 14, 2011, Josep performed at the  Konzerthaus in Vienna with a special program titled Liebe und Leidenschaft, that is Love and Passion. Those  who are familiar with his professional career certainly know what to perform in Vienna means to him, with how much intensity he experience every performance in a city that has always occupied a privileged place in his heart from his very first visit in the early 70s: he has always said this, even in his speech after receiving the Golden Medal of honour of Vienna (video). 

Josep Carreras will always be part history of this city, and that is why I can not forget this extraordinary concert I had the good fortune to attend. It has been an extraordinary opportunity that brought me to Vienna for the first time, and immediatly I fell in love with such charming city.

◦ Unfortunately no video of that night is available, only some photos. Therefore, I shall content myself to celebrate it in another way: it won't be with opera, because after the Elisir of last week, more magic moments a the Vienna State Opera are scheduled for other occasions. So, I'm going to do it with his performance all'Opernball of January 31, 2008 with two of the songs considered his strong points: Vurria and Passione, the same passion that will bind him to Vienna forever.
