Josep Carreras guardonat amb la Medalla Josep Trueta 2012 al mèrit sanitari

Ieri sera alle 19 presso il Palau de la Generalitat, sede del Governo Catalano, a Barcellona si è svolta la Cerimonia di consegna delle Medaglie e Placche intitolate all'illustre medico e scienziato catalano, Josep Trueta, che ogni anno dal 1997 la Generalitat de Catalunya conferisce a personaggi ed entità che si sono distinti in maniera significativa per meriti in favore del progresso e del miglioramento della sanità.

Tra i premiati di quest'anno Josep Carreras: la Generalitat ha voluto così riconoscere e premiare il suo operato in qualità di Presidente della sua Fondazione, la Fundació Josep Carreras contra la leucemia, che da 25 anni si dedica alla ricerca scientifica e a offrire migliori qualità di vita ai pazienti di leucemie e altre malattie del sangue. In particolare, la sua Fondazione ha investito oltre 100 milioni di euro in progetti di ricerca, ha finanziato infrastrutture sanitarie in vari ospedali e centri internazionali, gestisce il Registro dei Donatori di Midollo Osseo (REDMO) e fornisce  servizi sociali per i pazienti e le famiglie.
In collaborazione con il Governo della Catalogna, ha creato e finanzia costruzione ed equipaggiamento del Institut de Recerca Josep Carreras, uno dei pochi centri al mondo dedicato esclusivamente a indagare le cause e le migliori alternative di cura della leucemia e altre malattie del sangue.

◦ Josep Carreras, among other people and entities, has been awarded with the Josep Trueta Medal and Plaque 2012 for his sanitary merits: the official Ceremony has been held at the Palau de la Generalitat, seat of the Catalan Government, yesterday evening at 7pm. These awards were created by the Government of Catalonia in 1997, that was the 100th anniversary of the birth of renowned Catalan doctor and scientist, Josep Trueta.

These awards recognize the people or organizations that have stood out significantly for services rendered for progress and health improvement. 

◦ They have wanted to highlight his work as the president of the José Carreras Foundation against leukaemia, which, for almost 25 years, has been working in the scientific research of the illness and aims to provide better opportunities for patients. The Foundation has invested over 100 million euros in research projects, funded healthcare infrastructure in several hospitals and international centres, manages the Spanish Bone Marrow Donors Registry (REDMO) and provides social services for patients and families. In collaboration with the Government of Catalonia, the Foundation created and funds the construction and equipment of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute, one of the few centres in the world dedicated exclusively to investigate the causes and best alternative treatments for leukaemia and other haematological malignancies.
