Josep Carreras y la Universitat de Barcelona ponen en marcha el Campus Clínic-UB del Instituto de Investigación contra la Leucemia Josep Carreras
Ieri la Fundación Josep Carreras ha annunciato che il Presidente Josep Carreras ha firmato in mattinata un accordo con la UB, Universitat de Barcelona, per la creazione Campus Clinic-UB Institut de Recerca contra la leucèmia Josep Carreras (IJC) presso la Facoltà di Medicina dell'Università. La Fondazione investirà più di 2,5 miliardi di euro nella costruzione degli impianti e delle attrezzature di questo nuovo campus scientifico.

All'atto, svoltosi nel palazzo storico della UB, hanno partecipato anche il Rettore della UB, Dr. Dídac Ramírez, il Presidente della Facoltà di Medicina e Chirurgia dell'Università di Barcellona, Francesc Cardellach, il Vice Presidente della Fondazione, Evarist Feliu, e tesoriere del consiglio della Fondazione, Albert Carreras, fratello maggiore del tenore.
La Fondazione informa che, grazie a questo accordo di collaborazione, il Campus Clínic - UB dell'Istituto di Ricerca disporrà di un'area di 250m² presso la Facoltà di Medicina e Chirurgia (C / Casanova, 143) e prevede il periodo di pieno sviluppo di questo campus scientifico nei prossimi cinque anni (2013-2017).
Tra gli altri servizi, l'IJC fornirà al Campus di un laboratorio molecolare, un laboratorio di citometria a flusso, una sala di Criobiologia e contribuirà al suo sviluppo, assicurandone la sua costruzione del valore di 870.000 € e la dotazione di attrezzature scientifiche del valore di 1.690.000 €.
Allo stesso modo, a causa della complessità di alcuni processi, IJC ristrutturerà alcuni servizi in comune con la UB nei settori della microscopia, proteomica e genomica per garantirne un utilizzo ottimale.
Josep Carreras, nominato Dottore Honoris Causa dall'Universitat de Barcelona nel 1989, ancora si sente in debito con la società scientifica e ha affermato che il l'equipe scientifica dei tre campus è eccellente, e che il loro progetto intende aggiungersi, integrare, condividere e potenziare ancora di più il livello esistente: già ci stanno riuscendo semplificando la gestione e condividendo le strutture, e a livello scientifico integrando servizi trasversali e multicentrici evitando duplicazioni non necessarie. Tutto questo affinché un giorno le leucemie e le altre malattie del sangue siano curabili al 100%.

Il Rettore, Dr. Dídac Ramírez commenta che tale accordo rappresenta un ulteriore passo in avanti per l'Università di Barcellona, nel suo compito di sinergie per incrementare l'eccellenza e di unire sforzi e risorse nella ricerca scientifica con enti pubblici e privati. D'altra parte, è necessario osservare il legame speciale della UB con la Fondazione mediante la figura del Professor Ciril Rozman, uno dei pionieri della ricerca in ematologia e in particolare per la leucemia in questo ambiente di Facoltà di Medicina.
L'attività prioritaria dell'IJC con sede presso la UB, si concentrerà sullo sviluppo di progetti di ricerca di base e / o di ricerca traslazionale nel campo delle cellule staminali ematopoietiche (normali e leucemiche), e della terapia cellulare, che corrisponde a due delle attuali linee di investigazione prioritarie dell'IJC. La ricerca nella terapia cellulare e nei progenitori emopoietici, si terrà nell'ambito del Programma di terapia cellulare della UB (TCUB) coordinato dalla Facoltà di Medicina, che comprende squadre di ricerca pre-clinica e clinica con vari medici al fine di promuovere l'eccellenza della ricerca traslazionale.
La Direzione per la Ricerca del Campus Clinic - UB sarà condotta dal Dott. Pablo Menendez, ICREA (Generalitat de Catalunya), attualmente Direttore del Genyo (Centro Pfizer-Universidad de Granada - Junta de Andalucía de Genomica e Investigación Oncologica) .
Il team del Dott. Pablo Menendez, a partire da 10 ricercatori, e si concentreranno nei seguenti aspetti di ricerca:
- lo studio dei meccanismi molecolari e cellulari di leucemie acute.
- coinvolgimento delle cellule staminali nello sviluppo delle leucemie acute, sindromi mielodisplasiche e mieloma multiplo.
- lo sviluppo di modelli animali per testare nuovi approcci terapeutici per prevenire la graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), la principale forma di rigetto nel trapianto di progenitori emopoietici (midollo osseo, sangue periferico e sangue del cordone ombelicale).
Nato nel 2010 da un'iniziativa congiunta tra la Generalitat de Catalunya e la Fundación Josep Carreras contra la leucemia, l'Institut de Recerca contra la Leucemia Josep Carreras diventerà un punto di riferimento internazionale nel campo di queste malattie. Oltre al Campus Clínic - UB, disporrà del Campus - Germans Trias i Pujol di Badalona, situato vicino l'Ospedale Universitario Germans Trias i Pujol, l'Unità di formazione Germans Trias i Pujol della UAB e l'Istituto di Medicina Preventiva e Personalizzata del Cancro (IMPPC), coordinato dal Dr. Evarist Feliu e sotto la Direzione di Ricerca del Dr. Francesc Solé; e il Campus Sant Pau, che si trova nella complesso dell'Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau e Unità Docente Sant Pau della UAB, coordinata dal Dottor Jordi Sierra.
Il Campus Clínic-UB ribadisce l'impegno scientifico di eccellenza dell' IJC nel settore di Ematologia della Facoltà di Medicina e dell'Hospital Clínic UB avviato dal Prof. Farreras Valenti e che è proseguito fino allo straordinario lavoro del Prof. Ciril Rozman.

Nei prossimi anni, la Fondazione di Josep Carreras destinerà € 14.000.000 agli edifici e alle dotazioni della Campus Clínic - UB, ICO / Germans Trias i Pujol e Sant Pau. Il governo catalano assegnerà un budget annuale per finanziare le spese per il necessario funzionamento dell'Istituto.

◦ Yesterday, the Josep Carreras Foundation announced that President Josep Carreras signed an agreement in the morning with the UB, Universitat de Barcelona, for the creation of the Clinic- UB Campus of Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) at the Faculty of Medicine of the University. The Foundation will invest over € 2.5 millions in the construction of the facilities and equipment of this new scienctific campus.
Held in the historical building of the UB, the act was also attended by the Rector of the UB, Dr. Dídac Ramírez, President of the Faculty of Medicine of University of Barcelona, Francesc Cardellach, Vice President of the Foundation, Evarist Feliu, and Mr Albert Carreras, representative of the Foundation and our tenor's elder brother.
◦ The Foundation informs that, thanks to this scientific cooperation agreement, the Clinic - UB Campus of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute will have an area of 250m ² at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery (C / Casanova, 143) and plan to develop this scientific campus in the next five years (2013-2017).
Among other services, the IJC will provide the campus of a molecular, flow cytometry and cryobiology laboratories and will contribute to its development, providing its construction valued € 870,000 and the provision of scientific equipment valued € 1,690,000.
Similarly, because of the complexity of some processes, IJC will restructure some services shared with the UB in the fields of microscopy, genomics and proteomics, in order to grant an optimal use.
◦ Josep Carreras, Honorary Doctor by the Universitat de Barcelona in 1989, still feels indebted to the scientific society and said that the scientific team of three campuses is excellent, and that their project will add, integrate, share and increase even more the existing level: they are already succeeding in simplifying management and sharing facilities, and with reference to the scientific level by integrating cross-cutting and multicentral services, avoiding unnecessary duplication. ◦ The priority of the IJC based at UB will focus on the development of basic and / or translational research projects in the field of hematopoietic stem cells (normal and leukemic), and cell therapy, which are two the current and primary lines of investigation of IJC. The research in cell therapy and hematopoietic progenitors, will be held under the Program for Cell Therapy of UB (TCUB) coordinated by the Faculty of Medicine, which includes teams of pre-clinical and clinical research of various medical specialisations, in order to promote translational research of excellence.
The Directorate of Research of Clinic - UB Campus will be led by Dr. Pablo Menendez, ICREA (Generalitat de Catalunya), currently Director of Genyo (Centre Pfizer-Universidd de Granada - Junta de Andalucía de Investigación en Genómica and Honcología).
The team of Dr. Pablo Menendez is composed of 10 researchers, and will focus on the following areas of research:
- The study of the molecular and cellular mechanisms of acute leukemias.
- Involvement of stem cells in the development of acute leukemias, myelodysplastic syndromes and multiple myeloma.
- The development of animal models to test new therapeutic approaches to prevent graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), the major form of rejection in transplantation of hematopoietic progenitor cells (bone marrow, peripheral blood and umbilical cord blood).
◦ Born in 2010 as a joint initiative of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Carreras Foundation, the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute will become an international point of reference in the field of such diseases. ◦ In the coming years, the Carreras Foundation will assign € 14 million to buildings and facilities of the Clinic - UB, ICO / Germans Trias i Pujol and Sant Pau Campuses. The Catalan government will allocate an annual budget to cover the costs for the necessary functioning of the Institute as well.
