Press conference promoting "Meet in Beijing" Arts Festival to be opened by Josep Carreras

Dopo il successo in Taiwan, Josep Carreras si è spostato in Cina per gli altri tre concerti che completeranno questo tour primaverile in Oriente: il primo tra questi inaugurerà la tredicesima edizione del festival multiculturale "Meet in Beijing" di Pechino, il maggiore evento artistico di primavera in Asia, nell'anno in cui ricorre il 40esimo anniversario di relazioni diplomatiche con la Spagna. Il prossimo sabato 27 aprile, Carreras si esibirà con il soprano cinese Wang Li e con il Maestro David Giménez alla guida dell'Orchestra Sinfonica della China National Opera House, presso il National Center for the Performing Arts. 

Martedì 23 aprile ha avuto luogo la conferenza stampa presso l'Istituto Cervantes di Pechino, diretta dal noto critico musicale cinese Liu Xuefeng.

Dal 1998, anno della sua prima visita, Josep Carreras è solito tornare in Cina almeno una volta l'anno e ricorda con particolare emozione il concerto dei Tre Tenori presso la Città Proibita nel 2001: ha affermato infatti che la società cinese moderna e avanzata ed ha conquistato affetto e stima da tutto il mondo, e che per questo motivo è un grande privilegio esibirsi presso il Centro Nazionale di Arti Sceniche, cui pochi artisti hanno l'onore di accedere, ed in particolare a Pechino, capitale di un grande paese che lo ha sempre trattato con cordialità, rispetto e con un pubblico capace di grande passione e profonda conoscenza della musica classica che lo ha lasciato sorpreso fin dal primo momento.

Come annunciato, Josep Carreras  si esibirà con il soprano Wang Li, ambasciatrice dell'evento, e insieme canteranno un brano inedito "My Beijing, my home" che a detta della cantante cinese, che ha detto ammirare il tenore fin dall'infanzia, rispecchia molto lo spirito della città. Il soprano ha espresso l'intenzione di creare vere e proprie scintille d'amore duranite i duetti con Carreras delle più belle canzoni d'amore come l'italiana Non ti scordar di me, tra le tante del repertorio di classici europei che integreranno l'omaggio alla Pechino più moderna. In tal proposito, Josep Carreras ha dichiarato di apprezzare particolarmente i brani cinesi perché dotate di melodie molto belle, appassionate ma spesso con una nota malinconica, e di aver cantato in più occasioni "In a place far, far away", curando le sue competenze linguistiche. Per questo motivo è per lui un grande onore avere l'opportunità di esibirsi con un brano inedito.

A sessantasei anni compiuti, in merito ad un eventuale prossimo ritiro Carreras ha risposto che avverrà un momento o l'altro ma che non ha una data stabilita: godendo del privilegio di svolgere una professione per autentica vocazione, Carreras ha aggiunto che potrebbe dipendere da come si sentirà, da come lo accoglierà il pubblico, ma che per il momento la voglia di esprimere la propria passione e di avere scambi di emozioni con le persone è più viva che mai, oltre alla consapevolezza di voler ancora incrementare la propria esperienza, come spesso sentono gli artisti a prescindere dal campo in cui rientrano.

Il tenore ha dedicato un pensiero alle vittime del terremoto di Sichuan avvenuto la scorsa settimana: "Mi piacerebbe trovare le parole giuste per le persone affette da questa tragedia,  una tragedia enorme. Fatevi coraggio, cercate conforto nella vostra famiglia e nell'ambiente circostante, e abbiate anche fede. Spero che questo si verifichi, e ognuno di noi possa apportare anche un piccolo granello di sabbia, crediate anche nella solidarietà, non solo della comunità cinese, ma anche della comunità internazionale. Io da qui, ancora una volta, che sarei felice di apportare un piccolo, molto piccolo granello di sabbia per cercare di cambiare un po' la situazione".

After the success in Taiwan, Josep Carreras arrived in China for three more concerts that will complete his East spring tour: the first of these will open the thirteenth edition of "Meet in Beijing" multicultural festival in Beijing, the biggest artistic event in Asia in Sprng, in the year that marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Spain. Next Saturday, 27 April, Carreras will perform with Chinese soprano Wang Li and Maestro David Giménez conducting the Symphony Orchestra of the China National Opera House, at the National Centre for the Performing Arts.

On Tuesday, 23 April, the press conference promoting this concert took place at the Cervantes Institute in Beijing, directed by famous music critic Liu Xuefeng.

Since 1998, the year of his first visit, Josep Carreras goes back to China at least once a year, and remembers with particular emotion the Three Tenors concert at the Forbidden City in 2001, In fact, he said  that Chinese society  is modern and advanced, and has gained affection and respect from all over the world: for this reason, it is a great privilege to perform at the National Center of Performing Arts, which few artists have the honor to, and particularly in Beijing, capital of a great country that always treated him with kindness and respect, and with an audience capable of great passion and deep knowledge of classical music that  had surprised him from the very first moment.

As announced, Josep Carreras will perform with soprano Wang Li, ambassador of the event, and together they are going to sing a new, unreleased song, "My Beijing, my home," which according to the Chinese singer, who said she had admired the tenor since childhood, reflects the spirit of the city so much. The soprano aims to create real sparks of love singing with Carreras the most beautiful love songs, such as the Italian "Non ti scordar di me", just one from the repertoire of European classics that will integrate the  tribute to modern Beijing. In this regard, Josep Carreras said he particularly likes Chinese songs as they usually have lovely, passionate melodies, often with a melancholy note, and sang on several occasions "In a place far, far away", taking care of his language skills in preparation. For this reason, it is for him a great honor to have the opportunity to perform with an unreleased track.

Sixty-six years old, with reference to a possible upcoming retirement, Carreras answered it will happen one day or another, but that he does not have a fixed date yet: enjoying the privilege of having a profession for authentic vocation, Carreras added that it might depend on how he will be, how the public will welcome him, but at the moment his desire to express his passion, to exchange emotions with people is more intense than ever; moreover, he still would like to increase his experience, as often happens to artists, regardless the field they belong to.

The tenor has dedicated a thought for the victims of the Sichuan earthquake that took place last week: "I'd like to find the right words for the people affected by this tragedy, a huge tragedy. Teak heart, seek comfort in your family environment, and also have faith. I hope this will occur, and each of us can contribute even with a small grain of sand. Believe also in solidarity, not only from the Chinese, but  from the international community as well. From here, I repeat once again, that I would be happy to provide a small, very small grain of sand to try to change a little this situation.
