Josep Carreras warmly ovationed by 4.000 people at the Sala Palatului in Bucharest

Venerdì sera Josep Carreras ha offerto uno straordinario concerto presso la Sala Palatului di Bucarest, accompagnato dal soprano Natalia Kovalyova e l'Orchestra della Radio Nazionale di Bucarest diretta da David Giménez. Come riportano più articoli, per l'occasione la Sala Palatului, che ha una capienza di 4.000 persone, era al completo. Il traffico ed il maltempo hanno ritardato l'inizio dello spettacolo di circa mezz'ora per consentire a quasi tutti gli spettatori di poter accedere alla sala in tempo.

Con circa mezz'ora di ritardo per i motivi sopra accennati, il concerto ha preso avvio con l'Ouverture de Der Zigeuner Baron di Strauss, diretto magistralmente da David Giménez alla guida dell'Orchestra della Radio Nazionale di Romania. Josep Carreras ha in seguito cantato due brani, L'Ultima Canzone e Vurria, per poi cedere spazio a Natalia Kovalyova che si è esibita con Song to the Moon, dalla celebre opera Rusalka di Antonin Dvorak. Il tenore ha poi dopo portato in scena un pizzico della propria patria, con la catalana Rosó (Pel teu amor) di Josep Ribas, e dopo di lui il soprano ha proposto opera con il Bolero dei Vespri Siciliani, Merce, dilette amiche.
Un nuovo momento orchestrale tratto da Spartacus di Aram Khachaturian, prima di affidare a Carreras il compito di concludere la prima parte del concerto con The Impossible Dream, da The Man of La Mancha, di cui abbiamo anche il video.

Carreras, dopo 20 minuti, ha inaugurato la seconda parte dello spettacolo con Pecché e Passione, per poi lasciare la scena al soprano che ha cantato una splendida Vissi d'arte da Tosca. Successivamente il tenore è tornato sul palco con una gran sorpresa graditissima per chi lo segue da tempo, interpretando dopo diversi anni la celebre aria Il Lamento di Federico da L'Arlesiana di Francesco Cilea, offrendone una versione più pacata ma ugualmente straordinaria.

L'intermezzo orchestrale de La Boda de Luis Alonso, eseguito splendidamente prima che i due cantanti si potessero congiungere nel magnificamente interpretato El Dúo de La Africana, considerato come uno dei momenti di maggior rilievo della serata. Un brano a testa per concludere il programma ufficiale: Heia in den Bergen dall'opera Die Csardasfürstin cantata dalla Kovalyova, e l'immancabile Core 'ngrato, come sempre squisitamente interpretata da Josep Carreras.

In totale si contano cinque bis: Josep ha scelto Chitarra Romana e Torna a Surriento, e il soprano dopo aver cantato per proprio conto Meine Lippen die küssen so heiß, ha raggiunto Carreras sul palco per cantare in duetto Non ti Scordar di me e il Brindisi de La Traviata. Durante i bis, parte del pubblico, tra cui spicca anche qualche volto a me noto, si è radunata direttamente sotto il palco per applaudire gli artisti, soprattutto Josep Carreras, non destando troppa preoccupazione ai tre addetti alla sicurezza previamente schierati per tutta la durata del concerto. L'atmosfera era molto calorosa ed entusiastica nella Sala Palatului venerdì sera: Josep Carreras in due ore aveva scaldato il cuore di 4.000 persone, e queste lo hanno ringraziato con interminabili ovazioni.

◦ Last Friday, Josep Carreras offered an extraordinary concert at the Sala Palatului in Bucharest. He shared the stage with soprano Natalia Kovalyova and the National Radio Orchestra conducted by David Giménez. The event was sold-out: 4.000 people attended the concert that started with almost half an hour delay due to traffic in Bucharest and very bad weather. 

◦ The Orchestra began playing wonderfully the Ouverture from Der Zigeuner Baron by Strauss, then Josep Carreras arrived on stage and sang L'Ultima Canzone and Vurria. After that, Natalia Kovalyova brought opera on stage with Song to the Moon from Dvorak's Rusalka, and later Carreras brought his homeland with a great performance of the catalan Rosó (Pel teu amor) by Josep Ribas. Opera again with the rendition of Merce, dilette amiche, Bolero from Vespri Siciliani, and another orchestral performance with Spartacus by Aram Khachaturian. ◦ After 20 minute intermission, the tenor opened the second part with two songs, Pecché and Passione, and at the end of the great rendition of Vissi d'arte by the soprano, he was back on stage with a great surprise for those who has been following him for long time: he sang again Il Lamento di Federico from L'Arlesiana by Cilea (it was years since he latest sang it), extraordinary as ever.

A great version of La Boda de Luis Alonso (Intermezzo), before the two singers could sing together El dúo de la Africana, considered to be one of the top moments of the show, and then they closed the official program with a song each one: she sang Heia in den Bergen from Die Csardasfürstin, and Carreras chose as usual Core 'ngrato for a hugely impressive ending.  

◦ Five encores: the tenor performed Chitarra Romana and Torna a Surriento (Video), and the soprano sang Meine Lippen die küssen so heiß, before singing together two more duets, Non ti scordar di me and Brindis from La Traviata. During this last part, someone of the audience, included a couple of people I'm familiar with, came closer to the stage to ovationate the tenor, but this didn't worry the three bodyguards who where just down the stage during the whole concert. The atmosphere at the Sala Palatului was great and enthusiastic: Josep Carreras touched the heart of 4.000 people with a two hour-concert, and they celebrated him with powerful ovations!!
