Josep Carreras gave voice to Christmas in Bratislava
Circa 24 ore dopo il concerto straordinario di Mosca, la sera del 20 Dicembre Josep Carreras si è esibito sul palco della Arena Ondrej Nepela di Bratislava per offrire l'ultimo concerto prima di Natale. Il tenore è stato affiancato dal soprano russo Natalia Ushakova, da David Giménez che ha diretto la Filarmonica di Stato di Kosice, e dal Coro del Teatro di Stato di Kosice, per dare voce ancora una volta allo spirito del Natale.

Analogamente a quanto è avvenuto a Sofia, il concerto si è composto di due parti: l'una di stampo più classico, e l'altra ispirata alle imminenti festività natalizie.
La Filarmonica di Stato di Kosice, con il Maestro David Giménez alla sua guida, è stata incaricata della splendida apertura con l'Ouverture del Die Fledermaus, e subito dopo il grande momento dell' ingresso di Josep Carreras, accolto molto calorosamente dal pubblico: Carreras ha scelto di cominciare con due brani napoletani come Marechiare e Passione, per poi alternarsi con il soprano Natalia Ushakova, con la quale ha già condiviso il palco in passato, la quale si ha affermato nuovamente il suo grande talento: ha si è inizialmente esibita con un frammento in lingua ceca della Rusalka di Dvorak, Song to the Moon, che ha suscitato una reazione entusiasta nel pubblico che, imperterrito negli applausi, l'ha costretta a tornare in scena, mentre Carreras è tornato per rendere omaggio al suo paese con Rosó (Pel teu amor). Prima del secondo momento di assoluto protagonismo orchestrale con l'intermezzo de La Boda de Luís Alonso diretto da David Giménez, Natalia Ushakova ha interpretato con altrettanta disinvoltura anche brani in lingua spagnola come Me llaman la Primorosa, dalla zarzuela El Barbero de Sevilla, e il popolare Dúo y Jota de la Africana, duettando con Josep Carreras il quale, a mio parere si afferma sempre come interprete ideale di questo frammento, e non solo di questo ovviamente. Il tenore ha concluso ufficialmente la prima parte del programma con The Impossible Dream, dal musical The Man of La Mancha di Leigh.

Seconda parte tutta natalizia a partire da Adeste Fideles, nella Carreras è stato accompagnato dal coro, raggiungendo così un risultato davvero impeccabile. Come a Sofia, tenore ha riproposto Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas, alimentando in me curiosità e il desiderio di ascoltare la sua versione. Ho già detto quanto, a mio parere, questo brano si intoni perfettamente alle sue doti artistiche e vocali. Un altro momento molto suggestivo l'ha regalato il soprano con una celebre Wiegenlied, e l'intensità andava in crescendo con Cantique de Noël, nella quale la Ushakova è stata raggiunta da Josep Carreras, ovviamente, e dal coro. La Filarmonica di Stato di Kosice ed il Coro si sonoriuniti in un vivacissimo medley di brani natalizi molto tradizionali come Jingle Bells, Santa Clous is coming to town, Happy Christmas (War is Over) e We wish you a Merry Christmas.
Non poteva mancare il duetto de Little Drummer Boy, altresì noto come Carol of the Drum, che Carreras interpreta sempre con grande vigore, trattandosi di un pezzo dei suoi preferiti tra quelli di Natale. In realtà è diventato anche uno dei nostri preferiti, conquistati dalla sua deliziosa interpretazione.
Per concludere, Joy to the World interpretata dal soprano, e "la quintessenza della canzone di Natale", White Christmas, cantata dal solo Carreras.
Cinque gli encores: il primo a riesibirsi è stato Josep Carreras con I'll be home for Christmas, un brano in cui deve essersi immedesimato, trattandosi dell'ultimo concerto del suo tour Natalizio. Dopo una straordinaria versione di O mio babbino caro da parte della Ushakova, ancora Carreras con Chitarra Romana, brano popolare sempre molto gradito dal pubblico: a suscitare grande entusiasmo è stato l'adeguamento a "Bratislava bella mi appare", che tuttavia non è insolito fare. La conclusione èe giunta con due duetti: Non ti scordar di me e Silent Night, eseguita in Catalano da Carreras, in Slovacco dal soprano, un gesto che il pubblico ha accolto con profonda emozione , ed in Tedesco, come è doveroso per un brano tra i più rappresentativi del Natale che è nato nella città austriaca di Salisburgo.
Omaggiato con lunghi e fragorosi applausi da un pubblico riconoscente, Carreras ha regalato per più di due ore un'atmosfera magica anche alla capitale slovacca, nel suo ultimo concerto prima di Natale, nascondendo dietro ai sorrisi, e al vigore e alla dolcezza del suo canto, la più che comprensibile stanchezza derivata dalla serrata agenda nell'ultimo periodo.

◦ The State Philharmonic of Kosice, with David Giménez, was assigned the splendid opening with the Overture from Die Fledermaus, after which followed the expected moment of Josep Carreras' arrival on stage, so warmely welcome by the audience: Carreras chose to start with two Neopolitan songs like Marechiare and Passione, then alternated with the soprano, Natalia Ushakova, with whom he had already shared the stage in the past, who showed once again her great talent: she started with a fragment in Czech from Dvorak's Rusalka, Song to the Moon, which sparked an enthusiastic reaction in the audience who, refusing to stop applauding, forced her to come back, while then Carreras was back to pay tribute to his country with Rosó (Pel teu amor). Before the second moment of the orchestra as sole protagonist with intermezzo from La Boda de Luis Alonso conducted by David Giménez, Natalia Ushakova sang easlily even songs in Spanish, such as Me llaman the Primorosa, from the zarzuela titled El Barbero de Sevilla, and popular Dúo y Jota de la Africana with Josep Carreras who, in my opinion, once again turned out to be the ideal interpreter of this fragment, and not only of this one, of course. The tenor officially finished the first part of the program by singing The Impossible Dream, from the musical The Man of La Mancha by Leigh.
◦ Second part completely inspired by Christmas began with Adeste Fideles, inwhich Carreras was joined by the choir, thus achieving a truly impeccable result. Like in Sofia, our tenor has chosen again Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas, increasing in me curiosity and the desire to listen to his version of it. I have already said that, in my opinion, this song fits perfectly his artistic talent and voice. Another impressive moment when the soprano performed a famous Wiegenlied, and intensity was in crescendo with Cantique de Noël, in which the Ushakova was certainly joined by Josep Carreras and choir. The State Philharmonic of Kosice and the choir performed then a lively Christmas Medley made of very traditional carols as Jingle Bells, Santa Clous is coming to town, Happy Christmas (War is Over) and We wish you a Merry Christmas.
The duet of Little Drummer Boy, also known as Carol of the Drum could not miss: Carreras always performes it with great enthusiasm, as it is a carol of his favorites, and it has turned one of our favorites too, due to his wonderful interpretation.
Finally, Joy to the World interpreted by soprano, and "the quintessential Christmas carol", White Christmas, sung by only Carreras.
◦ Five encores: the first one back on stage was Josep Carreras with I'll be home for Christmas, a song which must have made him think of himself, being it his last concert before Christmas. After an extraordinary version of O mio babbino caro by Ushakova, Carreras chose again Chitarra Romana, a popular song so much appreciated by the audience: He adapted the lyrics by singing "Bratislava bella mi appare" simply conquered them, but he is quite used to do so. The conclusion arrived with two duets: Non ti scordar di me, and Silent Night, performed in Catalan by Carreras, in Slovak by the soprano, a gesture that the audience appreciated with deep emotion, and all together in German, the original language of one of the most representative of all Christmas carols, composed in Salzburg.
Honored with long and loud applause from a grateful audience, Carreras gave, for more than two hours, a magical atmosphere also to the Slovakian capital, in his last concert before Christmas, hiding behind smiles, power and sweetness of his singing, the most justifiable fatigue derived from his tight agenda in the last period.
