Mission accomplished: since 1995, the José Carreras Gala in Germany has raised more than 100 million Euros for the fight against leukaemia

Missione compiuta!! L'obiettivo centrale di questa 18esima edizione, ed ultima con MDR, del José Carreras Gala era di raggiungere l'importo di 100 milioni di Euro, come cifra complessiva raccolta a partire dalla primissima edizione del 1995. Ieri sera, il José Carreras Gala 2012 è stato trasmesso sia dal primo canale televisivo tedesco, ARD sia online via livestream su Ard Mediathek.

A partire dalle 8:15, orario d'inizio previsto e rispettato, si sono accumulate migliaia di donazioni, quantitativi molto vari, che tuttavia non si sono arrestati con la conclusione del programma. Kim Fisher, che affiancava Josep Carreras nella conduzione del programma, in conclusione ha annunciato con emozione la cifra di € 7.022.956: indicativo è stato il gesto del tenore con la mano che simulava il battito del suo cuore nell'attesa del verdetto finale, ma ancora più esplicita è stata la sua espressione di sollievo e la gratitudine che splendeva nei suoi occhi nell'apprendere la cifra che, nonostante tutto, aumentava senza fermarsi. Dopo l'abbraccio della presentatrice, Carreras ha ringraziato di cuore con il suo "Danke Deutschland" il popolo tedesco, la cui sconfinata generosità ha permesso di raggiungere questo grandissimo risultato. "Ma non si tratta di soli soldi" - ha precisato il tenore: "Questa cifra significa speranza e determinazione per tutti i pazienti che stanno lottando contro la leucemia".

Appena prima di una finale "Stille Nacht", nella quale tutti gli artisti che hanno preso parte al Gala si sono hanno raggiunto Josep Carreras, l'ultima cifra segnava più di 7,035 milioni.

Stamattina la Fundació Josep Carreras di Barcellona ha annunciato un risultato definitivo superiore a 7,5 milioni, una cifra che ha ampiamente consentito di raggiungere abbondantemente l'obiettivo prefissato: in diciotto serate, dal 1995 al 2012, il José Carreras Gala ha raccolto per la Fondazione tedesca di Josep Carreras più di 100 milioni di Euro.

Il José Carreras Gala 2012 ha così raggiunto un vero e proprio record di donazioni, affermandosi così come l'edizione di maggior successo sotto questo aspetto, prima, dopo e durante.

Come potete vedere, l'intera trasmissione è già disponibile sul sito di MDR, ed inoltre dovrebbe venire ritrasmessa online domani alle 13:30. In ogni caso, chi si fosse perso il programma avrà comunque modo di rimediare.

Hanno preso parte al Gala moltissimi artisti: Andrea Berg è apparsa quasi subito, cantando un brano introduttivo insieme a Josep Carreras e a Kim Fisher, per poi rientrare successivamente con il brano Einmal Himmel und Zurück; sempre nella prima parte PUR, e il musicista irlandese Chris De Burgh, con il suo brano Tender Hands, il quale ha regalato a Carreras la chitarra con cui ha inciso quello stesso brano, da mettere all'asta a favore della lotta contro la leucemia. Il tenore, inconsciamente ha continuato per qualche secondo a parlare in inglese, per poi rendersi conto che avrebbe dovuto continuare in spagnolo, com'è previsto nel Gala. Massima comprensione da parte mia, visto che spesso mi succede la stessa cosa. Un'altra donazione molto originale destinata all'asta è stata la Harley Davidson di Peter Maffay, amico e assiduo collaboratore del Gala.

Successivamente, il Deutsches Fernsehballett si è esibito nella coreografia "Viva la vida", il quintetto lirico ADORO nel brano Tage Wie Diese, Unheilig con un loro brano,  Die Höhner, il celebre violinista David Garrett con Music, Joachim Witt, e Anastacia con il suo nuovo singolo Dream On.

Anche Josep Carreras si è esibito inizialmente con Amore Perduto, brano tratto dall'Adagio di Dvorak, presente nel suo disco Passion, e successivamente in duetto con Ivy Quainoo in una dolcissima versione di Moon River, oltre al già citato brano di apertura, e conclusivo Stille Nacht.

Questi momenti artistici si sono alternati ad altri ben diversi, nei quali i protagonisti assoluti sono stati proprio i pazienti: la leucemia è una malattia che non risparmia bambini di soli due anni d'età, come la piccola Emma, adolescenti come Katherina, nè adulti come Ulla, che ha avuto modo di incontrare in diretta Pia, la donatrice di midollo che le ha salvato la vita, o Gudrun di 69 anni. Un altro momento molto toccante è stato l'ingresso di Sandra, paziente della prima edizione del 1995, ora sana e madre di una bellissima bambina che l'ha accompagnata in studio, o l'esibizione di Marcel, paziente di 11 anni, nel coro dei bambini. Purtroppo però c'è gente che non riesce a superare la malattia, come Christina, giovane paziente dell'edizione dell'anno scorso, spentasi a pochi giorni di distanza dal trapianto.

In tutte queste diversi situazioni, denominatore comune sono state l'umanità e la delicatezza con cui Josep Carreras si è rapportato con i pazienti, in particolare la tenerezza che sempre riserva ai più piccoli. Ma questa non è certo una novità di questa edizione, l'ultima con MDR, ma spero con tutto il cuore non sia l'ultima in assoluto: Carreras ha affermato che in Germania la lotta contro la leucemia continuerà come ha sempre fatto, quindi speriamo che ci sia futuro per il José Carreras Gala e che si chiarisca presto. 

Per quest'anno,  è stato raggiunto addirittura con un record di donazioni, e questo potrebbe favorire la realizzazione dei piani di una nuova edizione del Gala.

◦ Since 8:15pm, start time expected and respected, they got thousands of donations of different amounts, but this flow did not stop at the of the program. Kim Fisher, who presented the program with Josep Carreras,  was very excited announcing at the end the score of € 7,022,956: Carreras' gesture simulating the beating of his heart waiting for the final verdict was meaningful, but even more explicit was his expression of relief and gratitude that shone in his eyes as he learnt the raised amount which, after all, was still increasing. After the hug Kim Fisher gave him, Carreras thanked Germany from the bottom of his heart with his typical sentence "Danke Deutschland", because german generosity had allowed them to achieve this great result. "But it is not just money," - said the tenor: "This numbers mean hope and determination for all patients who are struggling with leukemia". Just before a final "Silent Night", in which all the artists joined Josep Carreras, the last amount broadcast marked more than 7.035 million.

This morning, the Fundació Josep Carreras from Barcelona has announced as a final result more than 7.5 million, that has largely allowed them to accomplish their mission: in eighteen evenings, from 1995 to 2012, the José Carreras Gala has collected for Josep Carreras' German Foundation  more than 100 million Euros.
The José Carreras Gala 2012 has so achieved a historic record of donations, establishing itself as the most successful edition in this respect, before, during and after.

As you can see, the entire transmission is available on MDR website, and also should be retransmitted online tomorrow at 13:30. In any case, those who missed the program can easily fix it.

◦ Many artists took part in the Gala: Andrea Berg appeared almost immediately, singing an opening song with Josep Carreras and Kim Fisher, and thencame back later with the song Einmal Himmel und Zurück; always in the first part PUR, and the Irish musician Chris de Burghl, with his song Tender Hands, who gave Carreras the guitar which he recorded the same song with, to be auctioned in support of the fight against leukemia. The tenor, unconsciously continued to speak in English for a few seconds, then realized that he should  speak  in Spanish, as expected in the Gala. I can perfectly understand him, as often happens the same thing to me. Another very original donation assigned to auction was the Harley Davidson by the great musician Peter Maffay, a friend and frequent collaborator of the Gala.

Subsequently, the Deutsches Fernsehballett performed the choreography "Viva la vida", the quintet ADORO sang the song Tage Wie Diese, Unheilig with one of their songs, Die Höhner, the famous violinist David Garrett with Music, Joachim Witt and Anastacia with her new single Dream On.

Josep Carreras performed Amore Perduto, a song arranged from Dvorak's Adagio, part of his Passion album, and then a duet with Ivy Quainoo, a sweet version of Moon River, besides the opening track I mentioned before, and the final Stille Nacht.

◦ These artistic moments alternated with other very different ones, in which the protagonists were their patients themselves: leukaemia is a disease that does not spare children as little as two years of age, as little Emma, teenagers as Katherina, or adults as Ulla, who had the opportunity to meet live Pia, the bone marrow donor that saved her life, or 69 year old Gudrun. Another very touching moment was the entry of Sandra, patient of the first edition of 1995, now healthy and mother of a beautiful little girl who accompanied her in the studio, or Marcel's performance, 11 year old patient, in the MDR choir of children. Unfortunately, there are people who can not overcome the disease, as Christina, a young patient of last year's edition, died  few days after her transplant.

In all these different situations, the common denominator was the humanity and the delicacy with which Josep Carreras treated all the patients, particularly the tenderness that he always reserves for children. But this is nothing particularly new of this edition, the last with MDR, but I hope with all my heart not be the last of all: Josep Carreras said that the fight against leukemia will continue in Germany as ever, so we hope for a  future for the José Carreras Gala, to be soon clear.

This year, for the past 18 years the goal has been reached: a record of donations that might encourage the realization of the plans for a new edition of the Gala.
